Upgrade question

Hey guys, looking to upgrade soon as I have a GTX 1060 6GB coming in this week.  I have a Intel Pentium G4600 dual core 3.6GHz right now and 8GB of RAM.  I can either upgrade to a Intel i5 7600K and 16GB of RAM, or I also am able to switch systems and go with a AMD FX 9590 with 16GB of RAM.  I only care about gaming in 1080.  I have a 1080 monitor, not changing it any time soon, it will only show me 60 FPS, and I am very happy with it.  As I also am interested in emulators and roms the 9590 has a huge appeal to me with more cores and much higher clock speeds.  However, I'm looking at YouTube videos and people are saying with a 9590 you can't even hit 60 FPS @ 1080P on very high+ settings on games like GTA 5 which makes no sense as my brother plays at max with his 8350.  So if I go the 9590 will I be able to play games like GTA 5, Witcher 3, etc. on max 1080P with 60FPS?

All advice is welcome and I am grateful for.  Please do not hit me with "go Intel" or "X processor is shit" etc.  Please if you give an opinion tell me why you believe that.  Thanks in advance guys.

Screw the FX, even the 2600k is still beating its ass in games (more so with newer i5s and i7s). Despite the large amount of cores, it doesnt outperform the good old i7 in Cinebench either. High clock speed doesnt mean everything, since the instruction per clock is like a multiplier on clock speed to performance, in which the AMD CPU scores horribly.

Do you have Z mobo? If you dont then dont bother with 7600k, instead try fish out a used 6700/7700 instead.

If you already have the 9590 use it until Ryzen 2 launches in April, then grab an R5 2600 or R7 2700 most likely assuming you already have DDR4

Those youtube videos might just be using things that are really hard on the CPU like grass

Didn't really answer me.  My ONLY options, which are the only two I'm considering, is the FX 9590, and the i5 7600K.  Again, all I want to do, is play games on max settings at 1080P and get 60FPS (the max my monitor will show me and I'm asking if the 9590 will get me there with 16GB of RAM and a 1060 6GB.  I know for a fact the 9590 will outperform the i5 in emulators which is also something I enjoy dabbling in, which is another reason I'm considering it.

I don't, and I don't want Ryzen even if I could afford it.  I want either a 9590, or a i5 7600K.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm guessing somewhere in my first paragraph I didn't make myself clear as to what I wanted, I'll try again now:

I am HAVE a Intel Pentium G4600 (Kabby Lake) dual core 3.6GHz, I WANT either a FX 9590 or a i5 7600K, those are the ONLY 2 processors I am considering.  I ONLY will be gaming at 1080P, I ONLY care about hitting 60FPS, and I will have 16GB of RAM and a 1060 6GB.

If people could respond with which one of those two they would go with, and why, that would be great.

It would be a complete waste of money to upgrade to an i5 7600K since it's only 4c/4t where as you could get a 6 core ryzen chip for the same price, or even a 4c/8t ryzen chip because the motherboard is so cheap, unless you're getting the i5 for like $100

If you don't already have the 9590 for sure don't buy it

I have the mobo for the i5 and the mobo for the 9590 already, the only things I would be upgrading are CPU and RAM (from 8 to 16GB).  Not into buying a new MOBO and such when I can just get a CPU instead.  Thanks for trying I guess.

Absolutely, whatever youtube videos you're referring to I don't know what the context is.
I run an 8350 with a EVGA GTX 1080, and while yes there is a bottleneck (depending on the game) 60 FPS at 1080p has never ever been an issue, even when I tried a 1060 6GB. In regards to emulation the FX series at the time had been known to be one of the best for PS2 emulation play, regardless of it's heat issues and it's core for core performance being subpar. Personally, I'd say go with the 9590 given that it's your only other option.

This is the kind of feedback I was looking for, thank you for your input.  Pretty sure I'm going to go with the 9590, but wanted input from both sides of for and against VS. the 7600K.  I'm also really glad you're speaking from personal experience not just from assumptions.

Thanks again for your input and I'm looking forward to hopefully others chiming in with helpful input as well.

Except the R5 1400 + MOBO costs the same as the retail price on the 7600K? And it's a better overall chip? Or you could sell some of the hardware you already have an get an R5 1600 for like $50 more? Do you not already have DDR4?

I would recommend upgrading to the i7 6700/7700 at minimum for the long run, you're going to want the extra threads.

To put it simply, I'm saying the 9590 is shit for today (heck, shit even back when it's new). Only worth considering if you want a heater that's turned on with the PC.

And you didnt answer whether you have a Z mobo for the 7600k

What emulation software is that? I'd like to try that with my friend's old FX 8370. At least give it a reason to stay in the house.

Unless you are buying Ryzen stick to Intel for Processors. The 7600k is much better than the 9590. As for emulators the 7600k is gonna do just fine even though it has less cores it will still probably give the same performance.
