Gtx 960 (4gb) in 2018

Sergifq

Hey guys I recently have been looking for a gpu upgrade I currently have a r9 270x (2gb) and I recently have started looking at local hardware as an alternative on apps like offer up and let go. I found a dude selling a gtx 960 (4gb) for 175 and I managed to get the price knocked down to 155 is this a good deal and would the upgrade be worth it or should I wait?

This is the exact card on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-Installed-Backplate-Graphics-04G-P4-3966-KR/dp/B00UOYQ5LA

Nah, the 960 doesnt have the compute power to use that extra VRAM. It's only marginally better than your 270X anyway, which means it's not a good buy for you.

Yea I would buy the 960, I personally own one and it stills holds up to todays high standards. My card seems to do itself just fine at using the extra VRAM.

It's not a bad price in the current market. The 4GB 960 is basically a 1050 Ti in terms of performance, and 1050 Ti cards are going for north of $200 right now. I'm running a 960 in my wife's main PC, and she's never complained once.

Thanks, I just have one question what games do you play on it and how much fps do you get?

Thanks for the feedback, I’m definitely looking to get this soon before someone beats me to it.

A quick skim on eBay shows that they're selling for $150 or $190. Not all that much in between. $155 is a good price. If you want to push your luck and the seller is pointing to eBay prices, you could try $145 and remind them that after eBay fees, they'd only be getting $140 and they'd have to deal with the risk of a return or scam.

Yeah it's basically the same performance but you are talking about a brand new 1050 Ti Vs a second hand 3-years-old 960 for almost the same price at least in Spain, I don't know, I've seen a 970 for 160 euros recently in my country, it's just some matter of research...

If this were early 2016, I'd agree, but GPUs priced like ass are the new normal. I still would argue that Kepler's where it's at right now, because Maxwell and Pascal are nuts, and everything AMD is priced like a slab of gold

Omg I've just search some GPUs on amazon USA and what the bloody hell is just going on, a 1060 is as expensive as the 1070 used to be, and the 570 is more expensive than the 1060 used to be, what the, mining has hit hard on USA people it seems...

How about this https://www.amazon.com/PNY-GeForce-1050-Graphics-VCGGTX10504PB/dp/B01MCX07NW/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1520359562&sr=1-3&keywords=gtx+1050+ti

What about Amazon Canada? https://www.amazon.ca/MSI-GeForce-GTX-1050-GAMING/dp/B01MA62JSZ/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1520359724&sr=8-11&keywords=gtx+1050+ti

Don't know where OP is tho so...

I’m from us

Then take a look at second hand 1050 Ti Vs that second hand 960, compare prices

Also, can't you buy some GPU from Amazon Canada? It's slightly cheaper... I don't know how fees work there

Anyways, have in mind 1050 Ti is a bit better than a 960 and power consumption I think it's lower

I could buy a gpu from amazon Canada but I would have to get someone from Canada to ship it to me because they don’t ship to us. Also power consumption isn’t an issue as I have a 750 watt psu and also technically I could just overclock to match the 1050ti speeds.

Yes, welcome to 2018, where a GTX 960 can realistically sell for a few dollars less than a 4GB 480 did at launch.

The GTX 770, 780 and 780 Forest Fire Edition (Ti) are where it's at right now in terms of value. They eat up more power than the entire city of Detroit, which makes them useless for mining and keeps prices on them low for gamers.
