Alright so i need some help here, I am trying to get together a partial PC build to upgrade my system almost entirely with my tax return money. I would like to keep it around $1,000 and this is what i came up with http://pcpartpicker.com/user/jmklas/saved/3b80. I'm not sure exactly what i need but all i know is that i want it to look good and last for a while.

The parts that i don't need are:

-RAM  Currently have 2 x 4GB sticks at 1600

-Optical Drive

-OS

-HD(for mass storage)  Currently have 1TB Toshiba

Please give me some advice i don't want to buy the wrong stuff.

Kill the H55 and replace that with a Noctua. Need you a 4770K? What is your usage? What heat spreader is on your RAM?

I just plan on doing some simple gaming like probably WoW and some of the new titles like BF4. The reason why i chose the I7 4770k was just so it wasn't out dated shortly after i got it. But i am definitely open to other CPUs currently i have an AMD CPU and i would like to go intel. Here is my current RAM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820313080.

The "standard" advice is that unless you need/plan to use the i7's capabilities, (most common one is video editing) it is a bit of a waste and not needed.   The 4670k is between $50.00 to $100.00 less depending on where you go, and it is highly unlikely you would notice a difference for gaming. It came out this year at the same time as the other one, so it is not likely to be outdated any time sooner than the 4770k.   That being said, in truth I'd probably go for 4470k for vanity, so no judgment on my end if you do the same! The "K" at the end means it is unlocked and can be overclocked, it is nice to at least have the option, but if you have zero interest in OCing ever,  there are other options to look at as well. MOBO will still work.

For the rest, get the exact same RAM you have now to reduce the chance of issues.

How set are you on *that* specific video card or do you just want an aftermarket 770?  If you are open to others, keep an eye on TechBargains as I do see 770s pop up on there, with luck you can get a good deal on one you like with some patience and luck.  That being said, dropping down to a 760 would save you enough to get an HDD.

Honestly $170.00 for the case on a $1k build is kinda a lot.  That is fine, but it might be better to approach this as an $800.00 build that you have a case for already.

Are you ok with a black optical drive in a white case?  Looking for a white one may limit your options, and you may struggle to get it to look good.  Can you cannibalize one you have for the OS, then remove it?  Are you ok with that?  You could always get an external one at a later date when finance allow.

Just to be sure, you are set for your PSU?

Intel Core i5 2400 - Corsair Vengeance 16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 668MHz (9-9-9-24 - four strips) - ASUS P8Z68-V LE - GeForce GTX 660 Ti (MSI Power Edition) - 60GB Corsair Force 3 Boot drive with 2.5TB in a random nightmare of a configuration
