I was recently thinking. Why don't laptop manufactures use fifth gen intel processors in current products so that it can use regular DDR3 memory which could bring prices down? Like I know I could get refurbished, old stock, used laptops with fifth gen intel processors, but it would cool if I can get a new value oriented laptop with a modern low end dedicated gpu like the Nviida MX150.

Don't buy an old medium range laptop. Just buy a really low end new generation one like this.

Because they want the latest hardware inside their new laptops. The new Kaby Lake Refresh ULV is a decent performer so no need to dial back to old, slow ULVs. However, business laptops with 2nd/3rd/4th gen QM CPUs are still decent buy. Also, laptops don't affect much from RAM and GPU inflations.

ULV = ultra low voltage? 

 

I also think RAM inflation on laptops depends on region.
