Need help with GPU Passthrough

Me and my fiancee need to split my main computer in two so we can both game on it.
I have a SuperMicro server motherboard with 2 CPUs and 22GB of ram.
i currently have a GTX 970 and we were looking into buying a cheap Ati HD 5850 1G D5 to use for a VM for her.

I can't buy Unraid at the moment so: Can i use Linux to make 2 windows VM's and make Linux use the intel APU? - if not, are there alternatives to Unraid Server that i can use?
I've been searching for a while but i can't find anything that helps..

what board and cpu?

 

unraid is just linux so yes you can use anouther distro.

 

 

 

but really id just buy a cheapoptiplex and put the gpu in there, much easier to setup and use.
