I have a dell xps 8700 and just removed the motherboard/cpu and put them into a new case for better cooling. I also added a 650 watt psu, gigabyte aorus 1060 6gb card and an aio liquid cooler to cool the intel i7 4770 to it. When I turn the computer on it goes press f1 to continue or f2 to enter setup, f1 will not continue and when I press f2 it enters the bios and then I press esc and yes to not save it then goes into windows boot up and works just fine. I want to know if I should be worried about this happening or find out how to stop this from doing this everytime I turn on the computer?

that is fine, save the settings when exiting bios, and change the CMOS battery if the problem persists. This is a common fault on old sstems, where the bios, every time the computer is reset, will get reset. This is because the bios is stored on a single chip of ROM (read only memory). This is a form of volatile memory (like ram), and so when your computer restarts, the power is cut to the ROM and the bios settings are lost. To prevent this, the motherboard will have a CMOS battery, which is used to provide a constant supply of power to the ROM. If this battery fails, every time the ROM looses power, the bios settings will be reset, causing this screen to appear. Just press f2 and exit the bios, and if it is a very annoying thing, then replace the cmos battery.

Just now, trevrez said:

Now that I think about this more some Dell have sensors for if case is open.  Perhaps it's something related to that.  Maybe the case change has faulted that sensor.

Yes, make sure you disable that setting in bios, but if it is the CMOS battery, changing settings will do nothing. Try changing a setting, rebooting, and then seeing if that setting is at default or at what you set it too. Report back here with what happens

I didn't notice any sensors on the case and everything was taken out and put back in the new case just the same. Yeah I believe it is the cmos battery because I changed the boot order this morning and just shut down and turned it back on and back into the bios and it was back to the original settings before I changed it this morning. I will change the battery in a bit when I can go get one from the store and change it out for a new one. Thank you

My Optiplex had an intrusion switch. Look in BIOS for settings for F1 interrupt and intrusion. Turn them both off.

Yeah, so I changed the cmos battery out for a brand new one and it's still making me go into the bios on start up. It's not a huge ordeal but I just want to figure out why it's doing this. What else could be wrong? What could have have caused this to happen? What should I be lookking for? Did I fuck up the motherboard? More questions and I can't find any answers as of yet.

It now saves all the settings but being prompted to press f1 to continue(doesn't work) or f2 to enter setup, which I have to do and then exit the bios for Windows to boot up. I have updated the bios from dell and still cannot figure this out and it's frustrating

I had an XPS 9100 (I think) X58 board for a while. It threw errors at me because I didn't have every single USB header populated, which made it think that things weren't working. The errors were annoying, but didn't affect performance at all.

BIOS changes and updates did nothing to solve it.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.
