Displayport over Network?

I'm just wondering if there's anything similiar to the blackboxes by mediacento out there for the displayport standard? Many thanks.

 

It'd also be cool to hear from anyone who's used the blackboxes as well. They seem pretty darn useful, if expensive.

DisplayPort over Ethernet does exist but idk if it's wired up to support stuff like G-Sync. Also, from the ones I found, the tech maxes out at 1080p60. I think HDMI over ethernet would be more practical

maybe he meant thunderbolt 2?

You always do remote desktop to raspberry pi/old computer or just use something like the Steam Link setup.

The problem with display signals over ethernet is they are very compressed signals. Typical ethernet gives you a max bandwidth of 1Gb/s (up to 10Gb/s if your network can do it but most can't and every device would have to be able to do it for it to work) and an display signal running 1080p/60 is ~3.8Gb/s, 1440p/60 is ~7Gb/s and 4k/60 is ~16Gb/s. So basically you will have to compress the video if you use ethernet (plus the large increase in latency).

Having issues with a Corsair AIO? Possible fix here:

Are you getting weird fan behavior, speed fluctuations, and/or other issues with Link?

Are you running AIDA64, HWinfo, CAM, or HWmonitor? (ASUS suite & other monitoring software often have the same issue.)

Corsair Link has problems with some monitoring software so you may have to change some settings to get them to work smoothly.

-For AIDA64: First make sure you have the newest update installed, then, go to Preferences>Stability and make sure the "Corsair Link sensor support" box is checked and make sure the "Asetek LC sensor support" box is UNchecked.

-For HWinfo: manually disable all monitoring of the AIO sensors/components.

-For others: Disable any monitoring of Corsair AIO sensors.

That should fix the fan issue for some Corsair AIOs (H80i GT/v2, H110i GTX/H115i, H100i GTX and others made by Asetek). The problem is bad coding in Link that fights for AIO control with other programs. You can test if this worked by setting the fan speed in Link to 100%, if it doesn't fluctuate you are set and can change the curve to whatever. If that doesn't work or you're still having other issues then you probably still have a monitoring software interfering with the AIO/Link communications, find what it is and disable it.

That's one thing that is pretty confusing. Why isn't there anything more intensive out? I wish this kind of info was as easy to find as what pc parts to buy.

Keep in mind that's the ethernet cable spec. You can easily increase your bandwidth by using the right equipment, and more cables. This is why I'd assume most of the digital converters use 2 or more ethernet cables.

oh yeah, fibre optic Thunderbolt cables would probably be more capable. LTT did a video where Linus had all of his computers in a server rack in a closet and then had one of those thunderbolt cables running to a hub to his monitor and peripherals.
