Optane is intels marketing for 3dxpoint. A replacement for nand. Its faster, lower latiency(about 10x right now) and has much higher write endurance. Overall its much better than nand.

Optane currently comes in 3 products from intel

- The optane m.2, mainly market for caching but its a m.2 pcie drive and can but used for anything, but its small(16 or 32gb) 40-70 USD

- THe 900p, a high performance pcie or 2.5 nvme drive 300-600USD

- THe p4800x. The enterprise version of the 900p with more endurance and warranty. 1600-3000USD

In that system optane is used as a cache for the hdd, much better than the normal hdd, not really bad compared to a hdd.

That system isn't a bad deal, esp with current gpu and ram pricing.
