I will be building my first build within the next 2-3 weeks and have heard that booting your windows onto a HDD is a pain due to its slower speeds. Would it be worth it to drop something like 50USD to buy a 128gb Kingston ssd just to drop in my OS and the games I want to play?

If you can get even a small SSD it will help with general system responsiveness and boot times. Well worth it. 120GB class is cheap, but look around, 240GB class usually isn't much more and gives a bit more breathing room.

120+ is passable, but I'd try to go 240/256 just so you don't hit a wall in the no-so-distant future.

i mean windows is only like 40 gb and i would only put the games i play most on it and uninstall the ones i dont play anymore

Right now yeah. But Windows does stupid things, programs grow and change. Things store stuff where they aren't supposed to. If you keep a handle on it, 120/128 is passable.

as long as you're a digitally tidy person 120GB is okay, but 250 is REALLY advisable because its a relatively small price bump for a doubling of storage capacity.

i cant afford it ( im not broke im just..... im not gonna answer that xD )

either way, along the line i can upgrade to another ssd (256 gb) just for my games and super-essentials and uninstall everything else from the other ssd and let it be the "windows only ssd"

Get 240 if you can, it helps tons.

I have a 120 in my build right now and it works perfectly fine (though after a year or 2, the random program installs to C:\ have started bloating the SSD).

Want to know which mobo to get?

Spoiler

Choose whatever you need. Any more, you're wasting your money. Any less, and you don't get the features you need.

Only you know what you need to do with your computer, so nobody's really qualified to answer this question except for you.

I just built a system for my girlfriend using a 128GB Kingston SSD + WD Blue 3 TB HDD.  Windows boots very fast there is enough room for 1 or 2 average sized games but other than that she just puts all her work and large games onto the HDD.  If you are only going to have the 1 SSD then try to get a 250GB but if you are going to accompany it with a HDD 500GB+ then you should be fine with a 128GB.

Good luck with the build

cheers.
