Hi, I wanted to know how pci-e splitter perform, I saw a "x4 pcie splitter to 4 pcie 16x" and I was wondering how it could actually work ? would the 16x actually be 16x ? or do they just become x1 ?

I'm asking because I would like to fit 7gpu on my threadripper setup (gpu rendering), for best performance it is recommended to have each gpu to at least 8x line, is there pci-e splitter that do 1*16x to 2*8x ?

Thanks for the help!

PCIE Splitters cannot create more lanes then what you put into the splitter.

So if you put in a splitter in a 4x slot and the splitter itself is a 4x then the result will be 4 times 1x if used at once.

There are some chipsets around that do a very good job of this by balancing the PCIE lanes but i doubt thats on those cheap splitter cards.

For passive splitters you will need a motherboard that supports bifurcation
