Mouse DPI, in Game sensitivity and relevant DPI

Hi,

one of my friends said: I set my mouse at max DPI and adjust the in game sensitivity, so that the mouse would track the surface better

I think this is total nonsense, what is your opinion on this and how much DPI is enough?

That's kind of a nonsensical thing to ask. DPI settings aren't right or wrong, it all comes down to personal preference, and, really, can also change from game to game. I generally have mine set at 3200 DPI.

 

 I do the same thing as your friend, because I don't want to have to continuously change my mouse settings between programs. I'd rather change it once, and have it where I like it whenever I start the program.

Sounds like bs to me. I play with 400 dpi with 1.8 sens in game I think it tracks well.

I think he's confusing the polling rate with the DPI.

Having issues with a Corsair AIO? Possible fix here:

Are you getting weird fan behavior, speed fluctuations, and/or other issues with Link?

Are you running AIDA64, HWinfo, CAM, or HWmonitor? (ASUS suite & other monitoring software often have the same issue.)

Corsair Link has problems with some monitoring software so you may have to change some settings to get them to work smoothly.

-For AIDA64: First make sure you have the newest update installed, then, go to Preferences>Stability and make sure the "Corsair Link sensor support" box is checked and make sure the "Asetek LC sensor support" box is UNchecked.

-For HWinfo: manually disable all monitoring of the AIO sensors/components.

-For others: Disable any monitoring of Corsair AIO sensors.

That should fix the fan issue for some Corsair AIOs (H80i GT/v2, H110i GTX/H115i, H100i GTX and others made by Asetek). The problem is bad coding in Link that fights for AIO control with other programs. You can test if this worked by setting the fan speed in Link to 100%, if it doesn't fluctuate you are set and can change the curve to whatever. If that doesn't work or you're still having other issues then you probably still have a monitoring software interfering with the AIO/Link communications, find what it is and disable it.

That's my point. Mouse sensitivity (DPI) is not polling rate. They are independent of each other. That's like saying a monitor's refresh rate is the same as the latency, they're not the same at all.

 

DPI just tells the mouse what the conversion rate is for real life movement vs on screen movement is (like changing the location of the fulcrum on a lever. Polling rate tells the mouse how many times to report its location every second.

 

What I'm saying is that your friend is confusing DPI with polling rate. What he's doing should have no effect on accuracy and doesn't make much sense to me.

I think his reason is more pooling + more DPI and decreasing mouse sensitivity in game if better then leaving sensitivity on default and just increasing the pooling rate and adjusting the DPI
