I'm planning on building my first pc. I just need help on where i can make compromises and where i need to spend a bit more. Most of the games i'll be playing are R6, pubg and overwatch. I would also like this pc to be able to run any game that's out today at 40-60 fps.

My current decisions for my parts are: Cpu: Intel core i3 6100, Gpu: Zotac Geforce Gtx 1050ti 4gb,  Motherboard: Asus B250-A Prime LGA1151, PSU: evga 500, Ram: Corsair vegence 8gb (2x4) DDR4, Storage: WD blue 1tb. (optional SSD)

Skylake i3s are a horrible idea. Or anything skylake. That 1050ti will cost you like $250 with prices, get a 970/780ti used for much better price/value. That PSU is very eh... get a cxm 450w.

For the CPU you could go with a ryzen 5 with an iGPU (r5 2200g?) if you dont have money or want to save up for a better GPU, or get an r3 1200 or iGPU equivalent.

Do you have a budget?

Where are you located/buying?

Have you used pcpartpicker.com to assemble a build?

Forgive me for being new to all this, but why is skylake a bad idea?

My budget is about 500-1000 USD but i would like to make compromises that won't effect the performance much.

Skylake isn't so much a bad idea as a less than optimal choice. Coffee Lake cpu are significantly more powerful. An i5-8600K has as good or better performance as an i7-7700K. An i7-8700/K has roughly 30% better performance.

if i were to replace my current cpu with an i5-8600k, would there be a bottleneck with the gpu. If there is should i upgrade later to a 1060.

Also this build is my starting point. When i start making more money i was planning to upgrade parts such as the gpu and cpu and maybe add a cpu cooler.

Would this be a good starting point and is it good enough to support better parts later on?

Instead of an i5-8600K you might consider an i5-8400. You can use its stock cooler so there is no need to spend on a 3rd party cpu cooling solution.

I would not worry about bottlenecking the gpu. But give some thought to the rumors of new Nvidia gpu in the near future.

Don't plan on upgrading the cpu. While there are times when it may make sense, for the most part by the time one is ready to do such an upgrade there is at least one, if not two newer cpu generations.

Upgrading gpu usually does make sense. This is especially so if one starts with a lower-end model.

Your choices aren't that bad to me. I would get a used graphics card (like a 9 series) and either spend the savings on a faster CPU, more RAM or just bank it. Other than that it should do about what you're looking for. If you're really going budget, a Ryzen 1300X also isn't a bad choice. My current gaming rig has the cpu and it packs a punch for the price I paid for it ($99 on Black Friday).

Second the suggestion for pcpartpicker though, look for completed builds in your price range, you should be able to find a satisfactory configuration as a starting point.

so i accumulated more money and my friend recommended to change into an i5 7600. Should i or should use your suggestion with the i5 8400 or his. Honestly I'm not really good with cpu's and i still cant decide. Pls help

i5-7600 is the previous generation of Intel gpu. It has 4 cores. The i5-8400 is the current generation and has six cores. The i5-8400 generally has 30% better performance and is about 24% less expensive than the i5-7600.

Its says the the i5-8400 has a base frequency of 2.8 ghz and it has turbo boosting. Is turbo boosting a thing i have to enable in settings or is it like overclocking the cpu

Turbo boost is enabled by default. It is an Intel feature that automatically increases core clocks depending on load to improve performance. The i5-8400 can run one core up to 4 GHz, up to four cores at 3.9 GHz, or six cores at 3.8 GHz.
