Should be in Build Logs, but I'm excited to see pictures, sounds really cool!

HEADS UP, THIS ACCOUNT IS INACTIVE NOW

I'm keeping everything else the way it was for anyone who might check out my answers in future, but I won't be using LTT.

Definatly this will be running almost 24/7. Any suggestions? don't mind water-cooling but i have no knowledge of this.

Non, Well the built in. its running as a server.

Will be running 24/7 and powering 15 3.5" drives and 2 ssd's also wanted plenty of head room as may pull double duty as a gaming pc and server somewhere down the line

Why? Reds are for NAS so thought these where the best choice?

Plex would run perfectly well on an old i5 with 4GB of DDR3.  Mine is running at 1080p with an i3-2100.  Your build is the definition of overkill.  I half expected to see a couple of 1080 Ti's in it.

Make sure to quote or tag me (@JoostinOnline) or I won't see your response!

only got room to mount 120mm at best.

So looks like my options are something like the;

Noctua NH-D15 SSO2 D-Type as a air cool option

or

Corsair H60 AIO CPU Hydro Water Cooler for water cooling (this fits a standard 120mm fan mount?)

any better suggestions are appreciated!!!!

  • 2 months later...

Noctua NH-D15 or beQuiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 if you want a significant overclock. Otherwise something like a Cryorig H7.

Not sure about the maximum cpu cooler height for the case. So that would have to be verified.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Agreed overkill for just a Plex server but if he plans on a full server build that CPU would be a good fit for Plex, a NAS and running VM's, Plex requires fro 1500-2000 passmark score for a clean stream the 8700K hits 16035 thats enough to run a full blown server with VM's with hardware passthrough, but I like you used what was on hand and my server is pretty flexible with a I7 6700 16GB DDR4 running unRAID and built on the cheap
