Super noob question

I'm trying to buy cablemod cables for my pc, but this one cable keeps kicking my ass. So for a ASUS Strix GTX1080 I need a 8+6 pin PCIE, but they don't seem to have any, could I just buy a 6 pin PCIE and a 8 pin PCIE cable instead? PSU - Corsair HX850i

They are separate cables. I've never seen them stuck together.

Seem to remember some that are. That Way only 1 cable is needed. 6 and 8 puns both draw from the 12v rail iirc. Didn’t jayz2cents made a video to test if it had an effect on overclocking?

 

and yes @Op you can just get a 6 and an 8 pin

I think that was referring to cables from the psu meaning using an 8pin connector from one 8+6pin and the 6pin connector from another 8+6pin cable. The cables and connectors are still split in that case.

The Cablemod cable kits for the Corsair HXi series has 6+2-pin PCIe cables, which can fit both 6-pin and 8-pin sockets on GPUs.
