Hey guys,

my uncles computer started crashing or not booting a few weeks ago and since then I have it here to repair. Normally thats not a problem for me, but for some reason this one is kinda tricky.

Well actually I know the reason, I have no other AM2 board to test it with and the system doesn't power on anymore at all.

The system:

  • MSI K9N NEO V1.0
  • 2x 512MB DDR2 RAM
  • AMD Athlon X2 (don't know the exact one - somewhere above 2GHz)
  • Ati Radeon X1300

He has it for 4 years now and hasn't been using it very much (booted approximately 3-5 times a month and is kept in a clean environment so no dust in the case at all).

Thats why I'm not so sure about my conclusion.

What I've done so far:

  • I reseated everything and powered it - no success.
  • RAM is in the right config and worked for the past 4 years just fine.
  • I checked the PSU and even swapped it with another working one, still no power on.
  • I also checked the power switch and shorted the pins but that also didn't move a thing.
  • Of course everything was unplugged except for 24pin power-brick and the power switch.

The most awkward thing is that there is not a single LED glowing and even the fans don't tick like they do if there is a short somewhere and the PSU shuts down after 1 second.

So my conclusion is that the MB is dead.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

Kind regards,

Trek

Well he doesn't even have an internetconnection and needs it only to read some PDFs from work or write documents (OpenOffice 2.3 :P) to print for taxes etc. ;) so no upgrade required
