So I got a used Asus Mars 760 today, and bought a mini-display port to HDMI cable so I could hook it up to my monitor. It all worked just fine, until the screen went black, at least that black where the LEDs are on. I don't have any DVI cables to plug in to it. I put my EVGA 1070 FTW back in, and found it would not display out of any of the display port ports, but was just fine out of the HDMI port. The monitor recognized that something was on, but didn't display an image or a glowing screen, just completely black, and the monitor was not in sleep mode. Putting the Mars 760 back in, the same thing happened: off screen, on monitor, but it at least displays the motherboard logo and the windows loading icon, then it cuts out. I'm back to using my 1070 on HDMI, and the only other thing that works is the on-board graphics on the cpu.

My system:

i7 7700k

Asus Z270E Strix

16GB HyperX Fury RAM

Seasonic 1000w Prime Gold psu

Windows 10 64-bit activated

EDIT: The 1070's frequency is jumping around from ~1700 to ~2000MHz and creating audio errors as well as frame time spikes.

EDIT 2: Dropping the overclock in the GPU memory stabilized the clock, but the same symptoms occur. Plus, the coil whine of the card sounds very rough.

It could be a driver issue if it cuts out once it gets to Windows.

I think it's more advanced since there's several problems happening. I edited the first one to add more info I noticed.

Use DDU to get rid of all the drivers, then get into Device Manager (in Windows) to check whether the Mars and 1070 get recognized.

But it only does that for the 760. It's an SLI card so does that have to do anything with it?

More problems are also popping up with the 1070.

No, SLI is when you have more than one Nvidia card in a system that work together.

I'm in the process of doing that. In the log of DDU, it did have both the 760 and the 1070, but it said vbios for the 760 was unavailable.

SLi wont activate if the drivers are gone.

I finally got past the crashes, but the drivers for the asus card won't install through the 1070; it says there is no compatible device, while the 760 won't show after post. I'll buy a DVI cable tomorrow and continue then.

I keep trying to get it to work. When I do get past the login screen, it says I can't launch the Asus gpu tuning software since I don't have the VGA drivers, which I have installed several times. Then the screen goes black at random times, part of the time, there's just no signal. With DVI, only half the pixels work. There is a column of working pixels, then a column of white ones, and so on. When the screen goes black, it takes several minutes to shut down by just pressing the power button once. I have contacted the seller to see if there was anything not said up front about the card.

Well, it works now for some reason. However, the video is quite rough on the desktop. Maybe around 25 fps, it appears to be. I keep installing the VGA drivers but it says there are none, so I can't launch the ASUS software.

EDIT: Okay, literally as soon as I post this stuff about it not working, it works. I have no idea what the heck that's about. I'll go back here if it fails again.
