i bought these in order to make the 3 foot USB 3.0 cable That im using for PCI-E risers longer. For some reason when I plug these in the GPUs then are no longer recognized as connected. Its a USB 3.0 connector, and the wire is labeled as USB 3.0 and feels like its also shielded.

Why would this not work to further the cable length for the connection? I could not find any cheap long USB 3.0 cables anywhere, and a 3 foot cable is a pretty big restriction on connecting the cards neatly.

Depending on the quality of the cable extensions, you may be just over the USB 3.0 length specification, or they might just be really shitty cables. I've bought cheap extensions before that flake out with certain devices requiring additional bandwidth or power, but that work fine with a USB flash drive or mouse.

Maximum length of USB 3.0 / USB 3.1 cable:

USB 3.0 Connectors (Plugs)

The 3.0/3.1 specification does not specify a maximum cable length between USB 3.0/3.1 devices (SuperSpeed or SuperSpeed+), but there is a recommended length of 3 meters (or about 9 feet and 10 inches). However, the biggest limitation to the length of the cable is the quality of the cable. Results may vary, but with a high quality cable you should be able to go beyond 3 meters. However, to ensure you achieve the best results possible, use an active cable when going more than 10 feet (3 meters).

So then the quality of the cables is poor, or they claim to be USB 3.0 but actually aren't. You should always read the critical (negative) reviews on Amazon as they will point out flaws in the product and give you hints as to whether or not it will work. Test the cables directly into your computer, or buy another brand of USB extension and you can find out where the problem is by process of elimination.
