I have been wanting to build a nice gaming rig and want to go all out, am willing to spend $3,000-$4,000. I am just trying to get opinions from other experienced gamers. I would like to keep it as quiet as possible without using liquid cooling. I am planning on using the rig to play games at high resolution, and record. Would also like to overclock. This is what I got so far, please feel free to suggest different things.

Case - NZXT Phantom 820 Black (W/ BLue LED and Fans) post-50767-0-18063500-1387259399.png

Power Supply - EVGA SuperNOVA 1300W (Not too sure about this one)

Mother Board - Asus Rampage IV Black Edition post-50767-0-25909300-1387259394.jpg

CPU - Intel i7 4930K

CPU Cooler - Not Too Sure

GPU - EVGA GTX 780 Ti Super Clocked post-50767-0-83048500-1387259387.jpg

RAM - Kingston HyperX 16GB

SSD - Kingston HyperX 120GB

HDD - 4TB (Not to sure which brand) (will be upgrading in the future as well)

Disk Drive - LG 16X Blu-Ray Drive (Want to use as a Blu-ray player)

Monitor - Have no idea as of yet. (Monitor will be separate from the pricing)

I plan on using NZXT LED Fans for additional cooling. I plan on upgrading the Rig in the future such as RAM, HDD, SSD, and adding additional parts such as more graphics cards. Thanks.

Oh and by the way don't be a buzz kill.

Bigger SSD, less psu 1000w would be good, Noctua NH-d14 cpu cooler (The one for lga 2011) Cpu is also a bit overkill for just gaming.

Spoiler

You're spending too much on everything that's not the gpu.

For gaming, a powerful gpu is what you need. Such an expensive cpu or mobo is just throwing hundreds of dollars at the system for maybe and extra frame or two depending on the game.

Psu is also overkill.

What kind of dollars are you using?

This should be in the New Builds and Planning section, not Graphics cards.

You do not need the X79 platform in order to play games. A Intel i5-4670 or the "K" version of that CPU and a LGA1150 motherboard will do gaming extremely well. The X79 platform is more for people that do video editing,3D rendering or graphic designing. That is were you will see the Intel i7 4930K shine. Unless you are just wanting the X79 just to have the enthusiast platform there really is no need for that high of a CPU for strictly a PC gaming build.

Thanks for replying, this is exactly why I'm asking, to get the best performance out of my budget for gaming and recording..

What if I downgrade the CPU since the rig is gonna be essentially used for gaming, and go with dual or even triple graphics cards. Even then what CPU and GPU's do you all recommend? I haven't really had time to look into doing Crossfire or SLI. I want to stay with the LGA 2011 for the sake of upgrading and such in the future, plus i want the best of the best.

For the HDD and SSD sake i was wondering if i should go with the SSHD and see how it is. I also heard of ASUS ROG RAIDR Express, whats the word on that?

Also want to keep a fairly large PSU for the future without having to upgrade every component.

Thanks again.

Nice build you planned there, but it needs some tweaking (most are my opinions). Are you going to do video editing on the recorded gameplays (I'm assuming you are going to record that)? If you are, I believe a Maximus VI Extreme with Intel Core i5-4670K (or the 4770K if you require the hyper-threading) will suffice but as ericlee30 said, the 4930K will mainly benefit from heavy video editing, 3D rendering or graphics designing.

As for the CPU cooler, you can consider the be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 2. It is a beastly cooler in both performance and aesthetics.

As others have said, the PSU is too much. A 650W would suffice (or a 850/860W if you plan on SLI-ing in the future).

If you plan to go all out, replace the Superclocked one with the EVGA GTX 780 Ti Classified K|NGP|N edition.

I would get a smaller case but it is personal preference so if you do want the Phantom 820 (I would personally go with the Phantom 530 due to the bigger window and a better looking door IMO), then stick with it, don't let my opinions affect your decision.

EDIT: Just saw your post. If you plan on an SSHD, would you be using a HDD along with it? If not, then I would go with an SSHD but if so, I would just get a separate SSD.

If you regard my facts as wrong, feel free to rectify it.

If you regard my opinions as wrong, feel free to ignore it.

By getting such expensive parts, you don't get much performance for your money. You're much better off just getting what you need and upgrading as tech gets better and cheaper.

For 1440p, 2 high end gpus should be all you need for a nice gaming experience. There really is very little point throwing money at lga 2011 if you're just gaming.

A ssd + hdd is quite better than a sshd. There's no point getting the raidr express for gaming.

My recommendations: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/2lFZ0

Wait for aftermarket 290's.

My recommendations http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/2lFW3

Wait for none reference 290's, You could also run 2 hdd is raid 0.

This build saves you some money since a lot of the stuff you put in was unnecessary.

Also buy what ever blu ray drive you want.

You shouldn't run 290's off of a 650w psu...

Alright thanks for replying once again.

This is what i came up with and more than likely going to get. http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/2lUXp

I know its totally overkill, but I want to play in the highest resolution possible while recording (Plus i just want a monster of a Rig to show off as well, just to be an ass to my friends). Also plan on using graphic mods for games like Fallout, Skyrim, Battlefield, ETC.

I went with a higher PSU for the sake of 3-Way/4-Way (Just cause) SLIing in the future.

I am wanting to stick with the X79 for an enthusiast platform.

The RAM, SSD, HDD, and the Monitor i am not too sure about.(Honestly just picked random ones, Not too sure which is better than each other)

I also want to stick with Intel.

Once again thanks for your knowledge and experience.

Very well

The 4770k will allow you to play games at the highest resolution while recording. You should focus on spending money on gpu rather than cpu, gpu will have a bigger impact in games where as cpu is minimal and especially minimal from the money you spend on a 4930k.

SSD- go for the samsung 840 evo, there's nothing really better than that out there and ocz are currently out of business.

I would go for a seagate barricuda in stead of a wd black, they are cheaper and run just as good also quieter.

Monitor

With your kind of build you should go for a 1440p or 1600p monitor. Also don't go for a faster tn panel. imo A high resolution ips is far more better than a tn panel at 144hz and when you play skyrim with mods it will make a big difference. I would also recommend r9 290's aftermarket to get those good graphics at high resolution.

btw still think the psu is way overkill

Alright updated the build. http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/2lZHY

Downgraded CPU as recommendedr. also went for a better bang for the buck SSD, HDD, RAM and changed the Monitor.

I am keeping the 1300W PSU as i am going to eventually do 3-way/4-way SLI in the future.

Any other suggestions?

NO! If you are going to build on the LGA2011 platform do no get a i7-4820 cpu. It's performance in gaming is worse than the i7-4770K.

Asus recommends using an AIO cpu cooler on X79 boards. Because of the additional memory slots these boards have beefier power components that tend not to get sufficient cooling when air towers are used.

Edit: If you want to maximize performance I would suggest going with a quad channel memory part, i.e. 4x4GB.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

When I saw the mention of 4 way SLI I decided I would not be helpful to the OP in this thread.  Enjoy your new pc though but seriously get a grip.

I agree 3 - 4 way sli is ridiculous. If you are going to do that at least be running a water loop.

The 4770k is better than the 4820, just don't bother with 2011 socket you don't need it.

A good air cooler is fine like the nh-uh14s or the nh-d14. Also depends on the overclock.

Not too sure what to do. The 4820k is slightly worse than the 4770k in gaming performance.

Alright if I go to the Intel 4770k what MOBO do you recommend? Asus Maximus VI Extreme? I'm not too sure haven't looked into LGA 1150.

Not going to 3-way/4-way SLI anymore, as you all said it is ridiculously overkill.

Thanks Again.

Starting to feel like a tard, but that's why i'm here, to get experienced opinions.
