Macbook pro 2018 specs

I was thinking of getting the macbook pro when the 2018 model releases. At least my parents were. I was wondering if I should wait or get the xps 13 now with its 8th gen processor. My parents budget is 1500 basically 1700 or 1800 is kinda pushing it. Im a incoming freshman college student and i may need to use auto cad software on it but I already have a desktop for that so I dont think so. What should I do?

Just tell them that the macbook has a dual core with a low clock speed. IO isn't great on the macbook and you'll need a dongle unless you use thunderbolt for everything of yours. Dongles also cost quite a bit of money. You can't game on the macbook either. The only thing good about the macbook is the screen and trackpad.

Show them the spec sheets for the Macbook and the XPS, and explain to them that the XPS has much better value for your money, and has more high-quality components for a lower price. You can also talk about how the mac only has USB C ports, and how the XPS is more versatile.

Main PC:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X • Noctua NH-D15 • MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk • 2x8GB G.skill Trident Z Neo 3600MHz CL16 • MSI VENTUS 3X GeForce RTX 3070 OC • Samsung 970 Evo 1TB • Samsung 860 Evo 1TB • Cosair iCUE 465X RGB • Corsair RMx 750W (White)

Peripherals/Other:

ASUS VG27AQ • G PRO K/DA • G502 Hero K/DA • G733 K/DA • G840 K/DA • Oculus Quest 2 • Nintendo Switch (Rev. 2)

Laptop (Dell XPS 13):

Intel Core i7-1195G7 • Intel Iris Xe Graphics • 16GB LPDDR4x 4267MHz • 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD • 13.4" OLED 3.5K InfinityEdge Display (3456x2160, 400nit, touch).

Got any questions about my system or peripherals? Feel free to tag me (@bellabichon) and I'll be happy to give you my two cents.

PSA: Posting a PCPartPicker list with no explanation isn't helpful for first-time builders :)

What about the claim that macs are much better on the virus front and that they cant get viruses any validity on that? How are windows laptops comparable on that front thats the main thing driving them.

macOS isn't that much secure compared to Windows, slap ESET NOD32 on it and you can call it a day.

Grab a cheap-ish antivirus like ESET, and you'll still save money as opposed to the mac.

Main PC:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X • Noctua NH-D15 • MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk • 2x8GB G.skill Trident Z Neo 3600MHz CL16 • MSI VENTUS 3X GeForce RTX 3070 OC • Samsung 970 Evo 1TB • Samsung 860 Evo 1TB • Cosair iCUE 465X RGB • Corsair RMx 750W (White)

I also wanted to ask if the 15in version is really less portable then the 13 in as it has a dedicated graphics card.

I would go with the XPS 15, because it would have better cooling, and more possible upgrades.

Main PC:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X • Noctua NH-D15 • MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk • 2x8GB G.skill Trident Z Neo 3600MHz CL16 • MSI VENTUS 3X GeForce RTX 3070 OC • Samsung 970 Evo 1TB • Samsung 860 Evo 1TB • Cosair iCUE 465X RGB • Corsair RMx 750W (White)

Getting a virus in macOS may be harder, but once you get one, it's hard to remove it. In windows, it is much easier to delete the virus.

A quad core 13inch macbook pro is very likely this year...Apple are holding an event on 27th of march...hopefully some updates to the range will be earlier than expected.

It’ll almost definitely be quad core so finally the Pro badge will have a little meaning. I’d personally much prefer an XPS 15 though.

Viruses are a non issue unless you’re going to put yourself at risk online. The best antivirus is you

That's an F in the profile pic
