So i've recently decided to upgrade to an ssd. Saw that 280gb 900P optane ssd for PCIE was within my price range. I decided to use it as my OS boot drive by cloning my old drive to this one. I've successfully cloned it and and am now running using the 900P, but when i go to test crystaldiskmark i only get 810 Read and 809 Write. This is unlike the 2500 R/W speeds suggested. Am i missing a set up option or something i did wrong?

what slot are you using?

The dmi is much slower on these older boards and thats probably your problem.

What os?

You spend 3x as much on a ssd that won't be any better, why keep it?

I'm using my second pcie 16 lane from the cpu. I have a 1080ti in the first lane. Kind of hard to switch them out as my custom water cooling loop won't let me easily take out the 1080ti to test it in different slots

but I have PCIE lanes set up at (8x, 8x, 0x)

What os are you using?

are you booting from this drive?

Try booting from a different drive.

I've done some more digging into the motherboard, I don't think my older z97 gaming 7 board will support the 900P.

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/architecture-and-technology/optane-memory-ready-boards-where-to-buy.html

I've found this list, and im not sure if this is the correct to place to look but.

Edit: I might be getting that 960 pro instead. Unless my board doesn't support it either.

The drive will work on any system that uses pcie storage.

That list is just for systems that can use the intel caching solution, the drive will work on basically any system. This is also for the optane cache drive, not for the 900p

What OS? Try doing a reinstall instead of a clone and try it as a storage drive, not a boot drive as other things are also using the io.

Yes, I did a clone from my old drive.  Do you think this could be the problem?

How would i go about doing a fresh install without losing everything now?

I have the 280gb 900p and also a 250gb 850 pro on hand.

Do a reinstall of 1709.

You will lose all data with a reinstall, just restore backups.

Id boot from your old drive, reformat the 900p, then benchmark.

So I have migrated my windows to my 850 Pro. I've deleted everything on the optane 900P and reformated a new drive so there is used data.

My read and write speeds are still 817 read and 809 write on the optane.

I do believe that it my motherboard not supporting optane that is resulting in the lack of speed.

i think i may just return this and get a 960 pro instead.

One other thing you can check is the pcie link speed. Idk how to do this in windows, but can be done with lspci -vvv in linux.
