Hello,

A little while ago I posted on another section of this forum regarding plans for a graphics card upgrade, at this time I could barely afford a Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti, which realistically isn't much of an upgrade from my AMD RX 560 4GB - not at least to warrant spending $250~ AUD. I did have plans for a Nvidia GTX 1060 3GB, however, considering the price I just couldn't afford it. Though, I have ended up with more money then I expected and actually can afford an Nvidia GTX 1060 3GB and nearly a Nvidia GTX 1060 6GB.

Now my question is to either, wait for the newer generation card (Once released) or buy an existing generation card, this would most likely end up being a Nvidia GTX 1060 3GB as it's largely cheaper ($70~ AUD) than the 6GB model, and performs almost the same. I would be happy with the performance, since it performs better then my old Nvidia GTX 970 - which died. Also, in the case newer cards were released, do you personally think it'll make the GTX 1060 3GB obsolete, as in a low-end graphics card similar to my existing RX 560 in another year or two? An additional question, is $339 AUD for a Nvidia GTX 1060 3GB roughly MSRP, or am I paying a premium because of mining?

Here's a couple of graphics cards I'm looking at (Australia stores) ,

https://www.arrowcomputers.com.au/shop/product/asus-dual-series-of-geforce-gtx-1060-3gb-graphic-card-7618 -  (Asus GTX 1060 3GB) - $339 AUD

https://www.arrowcomputers.com.au/shop/product/gigabyte-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1060-mini-itx-oc-3gb-pcie-video-card-7521 -  (Gigabyte GTX 1060 3GB) - $329 AUD

https://www.austin.net.au/galax-geforce-gtx-1060-oc-3gb-gddr5-graphics.html - (Galax GTX 1060 3GB) - $329 AUD

https://www.ple.com.au/Products/625708/eVGA-GeForce-GTX1060-SC-Gaming-3GB-GDDR5 - (eVGA GTX 1060 3GB SC) - $349 AUD

https://www.ple.com.au/Products/629065/MSI-GeForce-GTX-1060-3GT-OCV2-HDMI-DVI-Displayport - (MSI GTX 1060 3GB OCv2) - $359 AUD

Australians, if you have recommendations of others stores with better alternatives under $380~ please let me know, thank you!

Thank you for reading.

At these prices might as well have another used 970, or 980 and 980ti if you wish.

If you really want a new card, get the cheapest. Dont need much cooling for a 1060.

Would you happen to know the average price for a Nvidia GTX 1060 3GB before the price increases?

Not sure if that will break your heart, but I have seen them as low as $250 in the past.

Also, your dead 970 is about as fast as a 1060 3gb, so you wont feel any performance gains.
