Just bought a ASUS MG24BQ 144hz monitor, love the refresh rate but I knew it didnt look right. In order to get the 144hz you have to have the resolution on a non progressive scan 1920x1080, meaning i dont get ultra HD 1920x1080p.. Being a newbie to monitors I didn't really catch the difference so now im stuck :(

is it that bad though, or are you just disappointed at not knowing

No its not really horrible, the only thing that I can really tell a difference on is the icons in windows, browser looks fine and in games is fine as well. But yes im disappointed in not knowing as well, and wish that lots of beginner guides to monitors and 144hz monitors especially, had more information on this.

Do you mean you have to set it to an interlaced scan instead of a progressive scan? If that's the case, it would look really horrible, at least it does on my monitor.

Yup pretty much, it doesn't look disgusting on my monitor but I can tell a difference, i'm just gonna keep it on 1080p for browsing desktop and when I wanna game switch it.

So here are my thoughts.... You either have a bad / cheap cable that is not DisplayPort 1.2 compliant

Or, you can force the progressive resolution using Nvidia's custom resolution. You should be able to choose Progressive scanning from there. Not sure if AMD has such a utility as Vega has been to expensive for me to upgrade to.

AMD Ryzen 3950x under a Noctua D15S, 32 Gb G Skill FlareX 3200 DDR4 running at 3200 CL14, Gigabyte Aorus Pro 570 Wifi, Gigabyte 2070 Super hooked to a Dell U2718Q 4k HDR monitor & an Acer 1440p 144hz IPS panel of some kind, an Inland 1 TB M.2 PCIE 4 main drive, a Samsung NVME M.2 250Gb, WD Blue 500Gb  and 1 TB SSDs, Corsair RMX750, Rainbows and butterflies...
