i was given a free Dell Demesion e310 it came with 1GB of ram and the max on crucial sit says 2GB is the max. The current OS is a 32 bit OS the cpu instruction set is 64 bit. If i upgrade to a 64 bit OS would that machine accept more than 2 GB of ram maybe 4 ?

you'd be best looking at the motherboard model, then check on dells website. i find crucials memory finding not always to be accurate.

EDIT - I've had a look around for you, and theres some people that have managed to get it run with 8gb of ram. so you should be ok with 4gb
