My overclock runs perfectly fine in everything except one game.

It passes an Aida64 stress test no problem, it never gives me a problem in any of the high end VR games I play except this one, and the temperatures are fine.

I get a BSOD only in this game: Cyube VR   It's like minecraft with good graphics.

WHEA uncorrectable error.

It happens specifically when I accidentally put my head through a wall and can see the outline of the whole map at once.

It's like it can't handle all of that at once.

I recognize that BSOD. You get it when your overclock needs more voltage.

Even adding more voltage to the Vcore doesn't stop this from happening though.

I decreased my overclock to 4.6 and put my ram back to it's XMP profile to test to see if the error comes back again, but I really feel like I'm sacrificing a perfectly fine overclock just for one game that's buggy.

What do you guys think?

Given the fact that I can play really demanding games at the highest settings no problem and can pass any stress test, this is just the game and I shouldn't worry about it, should I? Maybe just decrease the settings or wait for the developer to clean it up a bit?

Is it normal for some games to not play nice with an overclock like this?

i7 4790k

asus maximus vii hero

asus strix gtx 1080 oc gaming edition

760w corsair power supply

corsair vengeance 2400mhz @ 1.65v

Overclock when this happened: 4.7 ghz at 1.24v   4.2 max cache frequency 4.0 minimum  -  turbo boost and all of that enabled - Ram underclocked to 2133 @ 1.5v slight adjustment to timings. Passed 24 hour memtest86 no errors.

I would not worry, if it passes aida (at least an hour of stress testing) it is  perfectly fine.

That's what I figured. This game just hits the CPU way harder than any game should. I made sure to write the developer about it.

Could be worth reporting it to the devs. Who knows they may patch it.

If I were u try voltage at 1.28 see if it crashes, if not leave voltage at that, if it does it's probly game

are u running vsync ?

I already pushed it up more than I'm comfortable with. I'd have to go over 80 degrees in my stress tests to put it any higher sadly, but still it's one game that's early access. I think it's just the game.

I reduced my frequency at this point instead since that's the next best thing to try other than more voltage.

vsync doesn't apply here.

It's a VR game ;)

Dude buy a cooler please

ur temps should be in check even with 1.35v

I'm using a 360mm AIO. The Fractal Design s36. It's an older haswell chip. The 4790k. They get really hot even under 1.3v. This is normal. Only people with custom water cooling loops can go over 1.3 with these chips and stay under 80 degrees. Don't forget that the ram overclock adds to the temps as well. It goes from 1.5v to 1.65v with the XMP profile. That adds like 5 extra degrees at least to the CPU.

Oh and those max temps are from realtemp which has higher temp readings than everything else. It'd be like 74 degrees max in Aida64 where it'd be 79 in realtemp. Something like that.

Sure but I ran a 4770k (the one with the worse Tim) at 4.8 1.35v on a 280rad

and it peaked at 80

Well, you definitely won the silicone lottery with that one.

That's what's going on there.

4.8 on a 4770k?

That's incredibly lucky.
