I wouldn't. 1. I can't see on the pictures provided but either or both the Dell and hp psu may have proprietary connectors that may cause it to be incompatible with the motherboard. 2. Buying a used crappy psu is a recipe for disaster. Id save up and get a new psu that will last and won't die on you for a while.

Although that's not a option for some people, I would have to agree. The metallic casing on that PSU makes me think of an era where beige reigned supreme.

Even if you get the correct connectors there is a pretty good chance that it won't fit into your case.

Also how do you know that the psu which burned up didn't take another component with it? I guess theres only one way to find out if you have no way to test the system.

edit: there is always the ability to run some kind of open air test bench set up if a standard psu won't fit.  Also I'd look for a company that recycles used pc components, maybe they have one that will fit

That looks like a Standart ATX PSU to me and plus I have rarely seen an 80+ PSU with proprietary connectors and size

Delta has a crap load of metallic casing type PSU and yet one of very reputable brand in PSU.

I'm confused.  Dell PSU dies so you want to buy an HP one?!?!?

What's the end game here?

Tell us what kind of Dell you have so we can see if it's at least a standard PS2 size/mounting with a standard ATX 24-pin power connector.

Or take more pictures.

Otherwise....  NO WAY.

So a quick Google shows that the Delta DPS-290EB is a standard PS2 mount... but the power connectors don't look like standard ATX.

Now, if we google a Dell Optiplex 3020 motherboard, which is where you usually find said PSU, we see that the motherboard is in fact, not standard:

Image result for optiplex 3020 motherboard

So I would suggest just throwing the whole thing out and building a new PC.

You think I'm joking, but this thing is going to end up being a can of worms.  New PSU.. then board dies.. .then new board... vicious cycle.  And you never really have the opportunity to upgrade because it's all proprietary Dell crap.

It has absolutely nothing to do with the post other than to add a little levity to the situation.  Sometimes the posts get a little "deep" so to add a little levity to lighten things up adds a breath of fresh air.  Sorry to offend you so much.

The casing of the PSU has nothing to do with quality and vice versa.

There are lots of "Lipstick on Pig" models out there that have garbage electronics but a nice casing. like an MS-Tech Value Edition 920W or you can get an awesome PSU with a rather simple looking case like you find in most OEM PCs. The Delta DPS-500QB would be such an example.

So your statement doesn't help anybody...

You haven't seen many Business Class computers lately, have you? ;)

Those usually have non standard PS/2 PSUs.

They still use the same PS/2 Casing but are +12V only, either with a +12V Standby rail like this unit or sometimes with a normal +5VSB rail.

That seems to be somewhat standard in this area...

Yep, that's a very true statement.
Sadly you don't seem them often in consumer products because they don't do it with anyone...

Nah. I only see those rgb psu with bronze rating that barely pass acceptable quality level

Yes, from dubios System Integrators who want the PSU to die after Warranty so that you go and buy a new Computer from them - until you go to the Internets and ask if the Computer is good that is...

You need to buy the exact type you had before since it's not a standard PSU. You're limited to compatible Dell part numbers.

That's the only one on eBay at the moment.
