Broken registries, crashes, what should I do?

Avast Antivirus and Reimage Repair say I have a ton of broken registries and "unstable programs". Lately, Windows has been crashing a lot. What should I do about this?

I'm guessing a clean install of Windows is in order, but I'd rather leave that as a last resort.

Any help is appreciated :)

Clean install will fix it. You can try with restore too. That takes it back one update or to point where you have set auto-restoration to go.

You can try repairing but, as others have pointed out, a clean install is likely to be less of a chore overall. You can though probably salvage at least some of your files/documents whatever beforehand if you still have access to them. If it's Windows 10 then it's relatively painless, much as I hate to admit it (as Windows 10 is an awful OS in many ways). Use Ninite if you don't already.
