Building a smaller build

docterkiwi

Hey guys i want make a smaller PC. I stopped gaming a while back and could use some help with setting up a new build. I currently have a gtx 970 but the rest of the build I would like new. I move a lot and need something i can bring around easily. I play alot of Arma 3 so a solid processor is nice and really just want to game at 1080p on max for any game. or best i can do with a 970.

i'd say these are all the height of your elbow->fingers if not less

would I be able to fit my Nvidia 970 in the last two? they look to have smaller graphics cards.

I haven't been up to date much with the newer hardware but this looks good to me. You'll be bottlenecked by your GTX 970 so upgrade that too if you need more performance. Also I'd wait for someone to give thier opinion on this build before you use it:

Make sure you run sysprep before transferring your drive(s).

i7-8700 performance is very close to the i7-8700K at stock. It is a 65W TDP cpu, so it runs much cooler and will be fine with its stock cooler.

A single stick of memory to leave the second slot open for an upgrade.

Case has a handle for convenient transportation.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

Or you could get an 8700k for a tiny price bump and undervolt it for an effective 65w cpu

One could, but I'm not sure it's worth the effort. Besides, one would then have to add the cost of a low profile cooler like the C7 or NH-L9i.

The 8700k holds its value better and can be overclocked with a delid, worth it considering the small 20 + 30 bump in price
