please help

i just installed an ssd and now my games keep crashing after like 30 seconds sometimes even sooner. they never crashed on my old hdd. please help

this is my specs : 

cpu : ryzen 5 1600

graphics card : gtx 1070

Mobo :  ASUS Prime X370-Pro

psu : i forgot wich 1 exactly but its like a 700+w

ram : corsair vengence lpx 8gb ddr4 3000

monitor: asus 144hz

 

i had 2 now i have 3. 2 hdd and 1 ssd. so far i have only tried homefront and dirty bomb. the ssd came from a laptop and i system refreshed it.

i have windows 10 on my old hdd. and windows 10 on the ssd. i just tried csgo and it crashed aswell

i have the game and os only on the ssd..... other 2 are formatted. the games are fine if i sit in the main menu. when i try to join a server the game crashes. i have did all windows updates and made sure my gpu drivers were up to date. im pretty sure all of my drivers are up to date

Your SSD needs to be set to AHCI in the bios before you install the OS - Changing after an OS install can and will cause your system to crash 

im not sure wat its set to. i didnt change anything in the bios but the boot order. ill check

Sounds like your Windows Os is borked.  Much as I hate to say this.  Your probably going to have to wipe drive and reinstall everything.

Something or some code is missing.

well i goofed myself. i had win 10 on my old hdd and formatted it so now its gone and this ssd i think has a pirated version of windows 10. so i dont know what to do

Awe geez,

changing hard drives does not mean you lost your copy of windows.

Your windows is tied to your motherboard not your drives.

 

It should automatically use the product code, but it looks like it hasn't.

Go to settings - update and security -  activation - then click troubleshoot.

Windows may work that out on it's own, especially if your login is connected to your microsoft account which is default so it probably is. 

You're probably getting that windows isn't activated message, but that doesn't mean it's pirated.

That just means you need to activate it again.

 

Sometimes you still need the product key so I hope you wrote it down.

Most times, it'll work without having to enter it though.

I have a feeling that you're trying to launch games that were installed before you added the SSD right?

If so, you can't do that.

If you change your system drive, and reinstalled windows, you need to reinstall those games.

Best off formatting the hard drive too.

 

Just make sure you make a copy of all of your save games.

Most of them are in \users\<yourname>\appdata  (this is a hidden folder)

In the folders local, locallow, and roaming.

 

Make a backup of all of these and only copy back to your new system driver appdata folder what you know are save games after since there's more than just save games in that folder and you don't want to copy everything.

 

Most of your other saves will be in your user folder or your documents folder so back those up too.

i upgraded my cpu, mobo, ram, and graphics card for christmas. it does not automatically use my product key even tho its linked to my microsoft account. when i go to settings - update and security - then troubleshoot it wont let me use it because of different os. this os is win 10 pro and i had win 10 home. im about to try and use win 10 home media creation tool but the problem is it asks me for my product key and i do not remember it. i have formatted both my hard drives so nothings on them and i reinstalled 3 games to test and it just crashes everytime i try to join a multiplayer server. i contacted microsoft live chat and they told me to install win 8.1 media creation tool (i had win 8.1 then win 10 came out) and you should be able to sign in and it would use the product key, it did not. i had a problem like this when i had 8.1 on my old comp and it would ask you if you wanted to try win 10 for free and i did but then it told me that i needed to activate windows. i did not remember my product key so i contacted live support and somehow she found it and it was all fine.

Darnit.

As long as that was a retail copy you bought from microsoft and not one that came on a pre-built computer, you could have totally reused it regardless of the mobo change. Forgetting that product key is what's screwing you.

 

It's still worth installing windows 10 home to see if troubleshooting it works with that microsoft account.

 

I don't know though.

Try to see if you can find that product key somewhere.

 

***If you bought it from microsoft, you might just have an email with it in it in your inbox somewhere.

Just search microsoft or windows in your email and see if you have any luck.

my parents bought a prebuilt from walmart and i think i threw the case away long time ago. i just formatted all my drives and installed windows 10 home. installing a game on my ssd only and seeing if it works. if it doesnt work i dont know what the hell is going on

I just confirmed it.

If you bought from microsoft, you can find your product key in your email.

 

Just search your email for "microsoft store"

Oh, prebuilts come with OEM copies of windows that can't be transferred, so yea you have to buy a new copy in that situation.

ok well whats weird is if i stay moving in the game its fine and doesnt crash. the second i stop moving it crashes. wtf

Okay, go over some more routine troubleshooting steps.

 

Go to your motherboard manufacture's website, go to the support page for your exact motherboard (use the model number. If it's a gigabyte board, don't forget the revision number as well), now download all of the drivers for your system. You won't need the VGA driver.

 

Install all of those.

 

Go to the nvidia driver site, plug in the information about your card, and download the latest GPU driver for it.

 

Do all of this, restart and then go into device manager and try to update everything one by one just with the option to search online for the driver.

 

Clear the CMOS on your motherboard and open up your bios and confirm you want to load the defaults.

 

You can do that by pulling that watch battery out of the motherboard, waiting a minute and putting it back in.

 

Report back to us.

Try unplugging your USB devices to see if that yellow warning goes away. It's probably just something like that.

Hit the windows key, type reliability monitor, open it and check out what was happening when the last crash happened.
