Hey, so i was planning on building a pc mostly for gaming maybe for other stuff in the future. I was thinking about an msi z370 gaming plus mobo, an 8700k, and a gtx 1060 maybe 1070. Im not sure what case to use, but i have some ideas, would like to go for a black and red theme, a black case would do fine. Also, i have no idea what to use for cooling, that's the one area i'm clueless in. Help would be appreciated, thanks.

This has RGB and a good case, black/red mobo and nothing should clash with that.

Good scope for Overclocking, 3TB of storage, 8th gen i7 8700k, 1070ti should be able to run even low 4k, but I would keep it at 1440p. Big air cooler, (performs better than some AIOs), Change the case if you want, plenty of space in the budget for it.

This list similar to the one specked out above I just switched out Intel for AMD (you said you like red). this list is cheaper, but if you want to save more money,聽you could use a tower cooler like on the list above to save some money, but I would recommend sticking with the 80+ gold power supply if you plan to overclock. I also changed the ram because I didn't like the green pcb on the ram in the other build by Doc. 1027 but you could save money there also. I would recommend AMD over Intel for the price range, because you get 8 cores 16 threads compared to 6 cores 12 threads on the 8700k. hope this helped, good luck on your first build!

Its a tad over budget, but I wanted that black and red theme. Also I would only go with thee R7 1700 if your looking to save some cash as the i7 8700k is outperforming the 1700 no problem.聽http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-8700K-vs-AMD-Ryzen-7-1700/3937vs3917

mm good specs but the 8700k is the far better gaming cpu, the 3tb hdd is better, 1070ti is better than a 1070 (even when it is strix ;)) the cooler master air cooler has so much more heatsink, and it has a more direct contact by using 6 solid heatpipes, rather than water, not to mention better quality fans, the masterfan air balance rgb. Asus also do far better quality mobos, and i think it fits the red/black scheme more. Though goatshapedfish was correct about the green pcb on the ram, i overlooked that, and although the psu being gold rated isnt vital, again, I overlooked that rather than goin modular. I would instead recommend the following:

CPU: Intel - Core i7-8700K 3.7GHz 6-Core Processor 聽($457.25 @ shopRBC)聽
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master - MasterAir MA610P 53.4 CFM CPU Cooler 聽($89.99 @ Amazon Canada)聽
Motherboard: Asus - ROG Strix Z370-H Gaming ATX LGA1151 Motherboard 聽($201.99 @ PC-Canada)聽
Memory: Team - Vulcan 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory 聽($219.99 @ Newegg Canada)聽
Storage: Seagate - Barracuda 3TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive 聽($93.75 @ shopRBC)聽
Video Card: Zotac - GeForce GTX 1070 Ti 8GB Mini Video Card 聽($680.99 @ PC-Canada)聽
Case: Corsair - SPEC-OMEGA ATX Mid Tower Case 聽($119.99 @ PC-Canada)聽
Power Supply: Antec - EDGE 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply 聽($116.99 @ PC-Canada)聽
Total: $1980.94

A bit more expensive but you even get a black/ red psu thats gold and fullymodular, and the best looking ram ever (thats not RGB), and a brand spanking new corsair case from ces this year
