Mine on GTX 470?

I am only getting into the scene because a buddy of mine now gets free solar electricity at his apt, previously I was opposed to the environmental impacts this has.............. so much electricity wasted for literally no reason at all, but hey, if its solar, and there is 0 up front costs, why the hell not right!?

I have an old hd 7950 that should be able to turn about 60 bucks a month on nicehash, so that will be one of the cards going for gold; punny as hell? lol.

I have a GTX 470, and a 275 and a 460 for that matter, but I assume out of the three, the 470 will be the lest horrible, all horrible, but free electricity makes things relative. I am not even sure HOW to go about mining on such an old card. From my looking around I am not sure if nicehash will even run on a gtx 470, firstly as its old and will be an old cuda version, second its not very fast, third it has 1.2 GB of ram. Should I look into specific alt mining with it? Any advice?

I am not new to cryptos, I am invested in the market, I just don't mine. And I know, investing makes you just as part of the electricity problem as mining, except I make few trades and just watch my money go up as time go on lol. Slightly different strategy, but a few bucks a month is a few bucks a month.

Probably won't earn you anything but a lot of noise and heat. Most cards these days need 3-4+ gb of vram

EDIT: Ok that's a lie. It'll make you something, anything will really. Maybe a few cents a week?

It can’t be that bad. A few cents a week is literally nothing. If it makes less then 30 a month it’s not even worth plugging in, but there has to be something it can mine that will return some sort of revenue. Even if it’s a bunch of alt coins that are easy to mine...

Any advice..?

Well, this guy was using a gtx 460

Now a GTX 470 might be slightly more, around the same, slightly less, or a lot less. Here's why I'm saying that. That guy was mining sometime back in October of last year with BTC prices around $6k USD. Now BTC is around $10.5-11k USD. And since you have a 470, in theory you can make maybe ~25 cents a day? BUT, I have no idea what algo's your 470 can actually handle. If you are only really profitable on Blake2s (like that guy w/ the 460 in the vid), then you're screwed and daily earnings might be less than a cent a day given the fact that difficulty for Blake2s has increased (and will continue to soar with the release of the new Antminer A3 asic miners). Next problem is the minimum withdrawal fee for most pools, including NiceHash. That might take a while to hit when you are mining cents a day. But what the heck, give it a shot. It's free electricity anyways.

the gtx 400 series uses a lot of power and is not efficient. i found a video where a gtx 460 earned 12 cents per day, so you can expect maybe 16 cents per day, but 12 cents was in october

Yea, I guess I was hoping there was an algorithm that could net something... but sub 20 cents a day is pretty pitiful.
