Hi, here is my problem: I have a brushless motor and battery connected through ESC (haven't bought theese things yet just planning it). I just want the motor to spin, I need it for seminar work, not building any RC model. Do I need some controller for the ESC? Or are there any other ways to power a brushless motor?

Brushless motors are a form of 3 phase ac motor. They need the esc to generate 3 phase ac for them to turn properly. To control the esc, you can either use a servo tester, an arduino, or an RC receiver with a transmitter to control it.

What exactly is the application?

I want to demonstrate a Halbach array as a part of my seminar work about Hyperloop. I'll connect a round holder with 20 neodymium magnets to the motor shaft. The magnets create eddy currents while spinning, which generate their magnetic fields (a lift) but also a resistance. I am not quite sure how powerful motor do I need, but 1300W brushless inrunner should be enough.

Wow ok you are into a whole different class of motors from what I was thinking, have a look at electric skateboard kits that would get you a motor and control system all in one kit

what you want to do will also not come cheap.

you are looking for something like this or even bigger with higher torque

http://www.castlecreations.com/en/mamba-monster-2-2/monster-2-1-8th-25v-esc-waterproof-w-2200kv-motor-sensored-010-0108-03

you will also need a power source of 25V that can handle more than 100A peaks.

the signal for the ESC will be the smallest problem here.
