Hi,

So i’m having a big issue with my Dell Inspiron 5558 Laptop. I can not connect to any wireless internet and ethernet is not an option for me at the moment. I also can’t use any audio for some reason. It seems to be a driver problem. I have uninstalled (and deleted the driver software) the drivers multiple times, shutting down and restarting each time. I have also reset my router twice. They still don’t work. I am reluctant to do a fresh install because I will lose everything, including my Microsoft Office 2016 (which i lost the product key for). The drivers in question are:

Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160

Realtek PCIe FE Family Computer

High Definition Audio Controller

High Definition Audio Controller (yes there’s 2)

They each are spitting out:

For the Audio:

“This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Insufficient system resources exist to complete the API.”

For the Wireless and Realtek:

”This device cannot start. (Code 10)

{Operation Failed}

The requested operation was unsuccessful”

My computer info:

OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Home

Version: 10.0.16299 Build 16299

OS Manufacturer: Microsoft Corporation

System Manufacturer: Dell Inc.

System Model: Inspiron 5558

SMBIOS Version: 2.8

Installed Physical Memory: 6.00 GB

Total Physical Memory: 5.91 GB

Availabe Physical Memory: 4.12 GB

Total Virtual Memory: 9.14 GB

Available Virtual Memory: 7.37 GB

Please help me fix this. If you need anymore system info just let me know.

Thanks

Does your laptop have a PCMCIA slot?

If yes, try deactivating it in the hardware manager if not used by any expansion.

Some older laptops have problems with windows 10 due to compatibility issues...

My old travelmate for example has the problem with not enough system ressources. After deactivating the pcmcia controller from inside the hardware manager WIFI came up.

Just my idea...

Else if that is not possible, I would remove all audio/wifi devices in the hardware manager, then reboot and let windows rescan the hardware.

Main System:

Anghammarad : Asrock Taichi x570, AMD Ryzen 7 5800X @4900 MHz. 32 GB DDR4 3600, some NVME SSDs, Gainward Phoenix RTX 3070TI

There is no PCMCIA slot on my laptop unfortunately...

and by hardware manager, do you mean device manager? if so, I have disabled, uninstalled, and reinstalled all of the drivers.

I have found a new problem.

It is not even showing up as ‘WiFi’ in my network adapters (see attachment)

Yes it doesn't show up because windows can't bring the arse of the device into gear... like the message says. Then it won't be anywhere as for in the hardware/device manager.

Were there any updates or in other words, what has changed from working to not working?

So my Internet is completely gone now.the troubleshooter it can’t detect a problem. No I haven’t updated it since the creators update (there is no update available)

I think it might be a registry error. it was working completely fine yesterday, then I rebooted. The internet then just pooped out on me. So did the audio drivers. I want to see if there is any updates for either driver, even tho windows says i’m on the latest one. I will check that then get back to you. (i’m checking it on a backup 5year old laptop)

running now. I think i ran this about a week ago to see if there was any problems with my laptop, as it was running slow.

I also put the intel driver and support assistant in a flash drive and am now installing it on my laptop.

man, the 3160 is a really shitty network adapter

You should see my old travelmate... it got windows 10 running, but until the pcmcia isn't deactivated in the device manager, half of the laptop isn't working.

Anniversary update went fine, creators won't install... 70% bluescreen and back to Anniversary... next update run it tries again...

Then when using the Wifi a little more, putting strain on it, the machine usually bluscreens as well. Thinking about to roll it back to windows 7.

Yeah, i’ve never had this type of problem on windows 7. in fact, i’ve never had this problem till the creators update. I think microsoft fucked up a lil. But still, you can look up Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160 and everyone’s trashing it on how shite it is.
