Question about higher cores

Hi I am wondering if I got a 6-8 core CPU what benefits would I get I play games such as GTA v and scrap mechanic and browse the web but I want to get a CPU that will last a long time before I feel the need to upgrade the CPU

My GPU is a gtx 1050 but i8 might upgrade to a 1060 6gb soon

My current CPU is an amd athlon x4 860k but i get heavy cpu bottlenecks

I could get the 6/8 core cpus but it would delay/stop me getting a 1060 6 gb which would increase the performance the most

Browsing the web, theres no difference between an fx 4300 and a 8700k, but gaming 6 cores is about the limit for maximum performance without diminishing returns, i recommend the 8400 for best gaming performance, r5 1600 for bang/buck

As stated above I would suggest:

8400 or 8700K from the Intel side

-or-

1600 or 1700 from AMD side
