Random unexplained lock ups on my friend PC

So my buddy has 2 computers, both have identical boards and graphics cards, the chips are different. Both computers are running temps that are very well with in the range of operation and both computers run fine....almost. Random for no known reason they will just freeze, restart and all is good again. But it happens and it is annoying, anyone have a clue what would cause this kind of thing? it can happen 5 times in one day or once in a week. it can be during games or when the pc is idle. Is there a log that can be checked our would one not be generated in a lock up? if you need more detail just ask

Try using BlueScreenView by Nirsoft to see if any dump files are recorded:

It was not even able to generate any data. On either pc, locked up too hard. He did get a partial blue screen once and it said something about a dll... it's hard to fix a problem with lacking  imformafion
