1080p vs 1440p

|Azureks|
Go to solution Solved by RAM555789,

I honestly still like 1080p and find for certain applications it helpful. However I don't have my laptop on me (which can run games in resolutions up to 4k) so I am unable to test out CS:GO to see how it affects the aspect ratios on enemies. I would honestly just go with a 1440p monitor though as if you need to, you can just tune it down to 1080p for gaming. That being if you have to pick between a 1080p with G-sync and a 1440p without, always pick the monitor with G-sync since you have a GTX GPU. Many monitors also allow you to create profiles so if you want eye candy 1440p Skyrim one minute and 1080p CS:GO the next you can do that.

 I have been looking around for a new monitor, and i cant decide if i should get 1080p or spend the extra money for a 1440p one.

I am gaming with a 1070 and a i5 just for clearance.

I have been taking a break from CS:GO but i wont deny going back some day, but now i mostly play Squad, league and some other games.

Regarding 1440p i have heard some bad things. I have heard it makes enemy character models smaller and harder to hit, ive heard that the aspect ratio and resolution can fuck-up in some games is this true?

One thing is for sure when i buy a new monitor that is it should at least be 144 hz i have been looking at Alienwares 1080p 240hz monitor, however it seem a bit expensive. So if it is 1440p or 1080p i have jet to decide, can anyone convince me? any and all suggestions/answers is appreciated, thank you. ^^

I bought a Dell S2417DG, which is a 24" 1440p 144Hz monitor with G-Sync. Dell also do a 27" variant. I also have a GTX 1070 and play games on maximum graphics (or as damn near as I can) at 144Hz. It is a very good monitor and I'd recommend it all day long.

Stop and think a second, something is more than nothing.

It doesn't make much difference in games vs 1080p but on desktop it is a big deal...

You get smoother image in games and you can use bigger screen to keep good enough PPI to not see pixels

Probably what it was, was 1440p was new so game devs hadn't accounted for it yet, but with resolutions going up to 4k, games that are still regularly updated have support for resolutions up to 4k now and some I think are even looking into 8k. For older games that don't support 1440p you can always just turn the resolution down in your display settings through windows, and then in your game.

While that probably will happen, it is not “quickly” happening. 1080p is still a great resolution and will be for a while.

27 1440p is the way to go mate, especially for Squad or any game that requires accurate, range spotting and shooting.

I have had 1440p for a decent time now and wouldn't go back to 1080p. Same for all my gaming mates who upgraded.

2160p can cause some minor UI issues in Squad (or it did).

desktop on a 1440p at 27 is perfect IMO.

Personally I would say no,

24 = 1080p
27 = 1440p
30 plus = 2160p

In terms of not having to use windows scaling and read stuff well. As a general rule anyhow.

In Squad if you go 24 1080p, you can use in game resolution scaling (if you have decent rig) to sharpen it all up no problem.

ah okay, its just that the 27inch Dell monitor is more than 100$ more expensive
