You don't need a sound card.

With my current system I hear a bit of interference which I would like to get rid of, and I know it's not just my headphones because a friend has sennheiseer 555 and they get the interference on my system too.

Then it's likely you'd get interference with a soundcard as well. Grab something external like a FiiO E10 to minimize interference.

As for headphones, you've got a lot of options. What kind of music will you mostly be listening to? Planning on taking these out n about with you at all?

Plug them into your motherboard.

I have plugged them straight into the motherboard and into the front panel header and it's sounds the same either way.

They will also be at my PC and I won't be going out with them, I will be listening to a wife variety of music but I would like a slight bass boost.

Then you need an external solution, a sound card will do the same thing.

DT990's so you can listen to your wife and your music with a bit of bass.

How much is a "bit"? http://www.headphone.com/learning-center/build-a-graph.php?graphID%5B0%5D=2861&graphID%5B1%5D=4011&graphID%5B2%5D=2141&graphID%5B3%5D=2941&scale=30&graphType=0&buttonSelection=Update+Graph

FYI, the 558 is for reference - it is not much of a bassy headphone.
