The Steelseries new rival mice use a top senor and great shape. Rival 600 looks fancy and has a really good shape. Slightly different in shape the Rival 310. The Sensei 310 has an ergo shape if that's your boat. A lower end sensor and more budget mouse the Rival 110 is a good choice. Logitech G403 has a popular ergo shape good build quality and a top end sensor. It also comes it wireless if you're willing to splash the cash.

MMO mice like the scimitar and new razer naga will be good for MMOs with all the buttons but are very heavy and will effect your aim. The logitech G502 is a relatively heavy mouse compared to the ones I mentioned but it has a top sensor and a decent amount of buttons/features.

The FPS purest mouse are any by Zowie, people seem to really like their shape and they are not very heavy, they have a variety of shapes.

What makes a mouse good? Just try a mouse that fits your budget, has the right buttons and see if it feels good in your hand. I personally like Roccat / Logitech mice.

The best mouse is a mouse that is suited your hand sizes, grip style and preferences.

You dont always have to buy the best mice on the market cause it might considered to be the best by many but u cant be sure unless u have tried it.

With that being said it is not difficult to find one in fact if u can tell me your hand sizes and grip style i would be able to come up with some suggestion.

This guy here will have more to say about top mice than any of us combined...

http://www.rocketjumpninja.com/

He's been playing Quake for 19 years or so.

But summarizing the most important things you'd like to look at are:

- Shape

- Weight

- Sensor

- Amount of buttons

- Positioning of the buttons (some mice have a freaking button in the freaking wrong place, and would make

you click it without wanting it so many times that  you will kill yourself).

My personal choices would be Steelseries RIval 310 (the one I'm using right now), Razer Deathadder Elite, Logitech G403. I really like the Corsair Glaive but you ought to be prepared to make a surgery on the poor bastard since it suffers from a massive double clicking problem that can only be addressed only by disassembling it and bending the switch upwards. So for the sake of not going wild, keep in  mind the first three I listed when deciding for something. Now, if you have dwarf hands, I have no idea what to suggest.

I am going to say for the money the G502. I have a G402 as well but the build quality is not quite what the G502 is. The logitech stuff lasts for years and they stand behind their warranty on their products.

It's a good one, but heavy. The weight alone might put some people away from it.

I loaded mine (G502) up with all the weights in the box. It's only heavy when you load it up with all the weights. You can't go wrong with the G402, a very capable mouse.
