In a few weeks I, with the help of my father, am going to be building a gaming PC. I am worried as to whether or not the build I have planned will work, especially in terms of power. The budget is a little strange, as my father will be supplying the GPU, an SSD, and the HDD, and my friend might be giving me lightly used RAM. so, here it is:

I am willing to spend up to $630 on this build, which would cover everything above except for the GPU. My primary concern is whether or not the power supply is up to the task. Any comments or advice? The OS is either windows 7 or 8.post-50327-0-08805000-1387064934_thumb.p

That is just a whole lot of plastic with average cooling.

No

No

When it comes to cooling it performs about as well as the Thor V2, but the Thor V2 isnt really plasticy. Between the 2 Thor V2 is a better choice. Neither of them are a really good choice overall.

I would suggest looking more towards corsair fractal cooler master for good cases. There are a few others I am probably missing, but I'm tired. Cut me some slack.

How do you know this?

Ok, so I changed the case to a Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 (...) and the power supply to a COOLMAX ZU Series ZU-1000B 1000W ATX12V. This brings the total of what  I'm paying to $641.93, which is fine by me. I'm not so sure I want to try overclocking, so is the unlocked 4670 worth it? Also, is the 1000w PSU overkill? Finally, what motherboard recommendations do you guys have for me? I'm going to set a hard max at $680.

DO NOT GET A COOLMAX PSU. Stay clear away from them.

For gaming, it may not be worth paying more for the 4670k. It's up to you whether or not you want to pay more for the mobo/cooler. You should generally be overclocking if you're building your own system though.

You don't need aftermarket paste for the 212 Plus. It comes with good paste. Also, the 212 Evo is better.

You have a red graphics card/ram and a blue mobo. I question your sanity.

Are you only shopping from newegg or are you open to other US shops?

I'm open to using other shops. There is a fry's nearby, but I have not gone to it to look for parts yet and I think the few minutes I tried using their site gave me TB. I found an ASUS z87-k ATX  at tigerdirect (http://tinyurl.com/ksh6vqk) at the behest of whatthe_fuzz. I'm not overly concerned with aesthetics, so I'll take what I can get to an extent. I changed the RAM to Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 due to a price drop, and that's blue; however, if I get the ASUS mobo then the blue RAM is rather moot. For the PSU, what companies should I consider, and is 1000W a good decision?

On a random side note: I can't update my newegg  wishlist anymore - should I just break out the pen and paper?

I recommend using pcpartpicker.

1000w is much overkill and even more pointless if it's a low quality psu.

My recommendations: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2kYzk

Is that what your friend is giving you?

I asked him what kind of RAM it was today, but all he said that it was 2X8GB DDR3 with reasonable speed. I asked him what company, and even what color, but he wriggled out of giving an answer (which is reasonable - we're good friends, and he's giving me this RAM for less than it was bought for, so perhaps I sounded like a picky beggar). I trust him to not give me some sort of "Shady Inc" stuff. If need be I'll just buy the aforementioned Corsair RAM, in red of course. Thanks for finding those deals before, really. Better parts for cheaper!

I was asking to find out what color they are or if they would have clearance problems. Can you friend not send a picture?

I'll ask for more info tomorrow. The Antec One doesn't have enough space for the ASUS GTX 780-DC2OC-3GD5. Should I keep looking at mid tower cases or go for full ATX?

Oh my bad, I missed that.

In that case, get the Source 210 Elite: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/nzxt-case-s210e001

Hey, I can't give enough thanks. I watch Linus' videos, and he's always talking about how good the forums are, but I never expected them to be THIS good! You guys really saved me from spending a lot of money on upgrade-able products. I think with the Source 210 Elite, and the RAM from my friend, and your other suggestions, I'm all set to go. If I ever need any help down the line, I know just the site to come to.  Again, thanks!
