Installing SteamOS

ScubaChase

This is going to sound like a noob question, that's because it is. How do install Steam os to a usb and then to a another computer?

You're not installing to a USB, you're essentially creating a bootable USB. The first method is contains a recovery image of SteamOS - you're basically restoring that system image. The second method is an installer - you're installing from the USB much like you would install Windows from a disc.

The instructions should be pretty straightforward.

To give you the answer:

Download the SteamOS > unzip the package > Copy the contents onto a freshly as FAT32 formated 4GB or larger USB drive > plug that into the back of the PC you want to install it to > at Boot-up hit F12 (mostly) for boot-menu > select to boot from the USB drive (! select the UEFI USB DRIVE !) > voilà

I installed it early last morning on my already equipped with 3D-printed steam-logo case badges steamBox :D

I got the OS up and running with no problems...  went through the expert install options, to see what they did to this debian :D

anyway, I somehow can't get the post_logon script to run... anyone else had this problem and found a resolution?

Also the steam client itself won't start... did a standard auto-install on another machine, same thing... anyone else having this issue? (and possible solution? I myself will also keep trying to figure out and post feedback for ppl with similar issues...)

no-one with the non-starting steam-client problem?

anyone tried this from outside of America yet? or am I the only european testing SteamOS? (thinking it might be because of the locales... they mentioned the beta steammachines in US only and I'm now starting to think it might be for SteamOS too)...

UK here, there was no locales at all loaded and it was falling back to basic C locale.

As for the non-starting steam client open the terminal, type 'steam' and press enter, this should invoke it correctly.

My bad, I see it in the forum rules thread under 4.1, No Trolling. I had no intention of trolling or causing a stir, just wanted to crack a smile out of someone :)
