BIOS settings question

I am trying to OC my 8600k to 5ghz at the lowest possible voltage. Earlier I typed in 5ghz w/o changing any voltage settings and the mobo auto adjusted my voltage from 1.07 to 1.4. I don't want this. Problem is, I am confused by some of the BIOS voltage settings. 

 

The two I need to know about are the Vcore setting and Cpu voltages mode options. Vcore and voltages mode are both set to auto as of now. Vore however shows as 1.07. This is the default. When I boot my computer Vcore varies from 1.07 to 1.256. 

 

In order to set a new voltage, do I just need to change Vcore from auto to some value? Or do I need to adjust Cpu core mode to manual as well? 

 

Also which setting manages the voltage range? If I set to a manual value, will that lock it to a solid speed or will it continue to vary as it does now between a voltage range?

You'll want to change vcore to something manually... However, if you change the multiplier to get 5GHz without increasing the stock voltage, your probably going to completely fail to boot and have to test CMOS, unless your board is smart and does that for you.

Yep failed to boot. That does not harm anything correct? It just reset everything to stock values. 

 

Next I might try the upper bound of the default, which is 1.256v

When voltage is not what you set it, it's most likely loadline calibration (LLC), or the lack of it.
See how aggressive the different LLC levels are, and find which one you are comfortable with. I presume you aim for a stable vcore, so find the llc level that keeps it at the set value under load.
