Well, i ended up going for a 1080 Strix A8G. Found one cheap by some miracle, and with the rest of the money i got a gaming chair. I'm upgrading from a 1050 ti, so while i wish i went with the 1080 ti, i think the 1080 will still feel awesome.

Hi!

Do any of you have any predictions on when we might get out of this GPU shortage?

Been trying for couple weeks to grab a 1080 ti and all i could find on the market was a 1080 ti Armor from MSI which i decided to skip due to users review on overheating. Needless to say it was gone 20 mins later.

I don't often buy pc parts, but i just grabbed a bunch of high end parts including a 8700k and new monitors etc. All i need now is a GPU. Is it even common that sales are so stupidly blowing up? Or is it just a consequence of the mining frenzy?

 

I'd rather get my gpu now than get closer to the new releases.. i'm lacking the patience, and i feel that the 1080 ti will be fine for next few years.

Mucho love for all our fellow miners in the community, but ffs, give it a break, wait a month, let a brother get his GPU then u can kill each other over them ;) <3

1080ti should be plenty, but as you said... mining. That's mostly why prices are just crazy, which will probably only stop when Bitcoin and so on begin to fall/fail. Maybe there's a bit of hope that mining with normal cards will become unprofitable, so people stop doing it.

High end cards are always a bit hard to come by but right now mining is the biggest reason for shortages. Unfortunately there's no telling when the market will "slow down", but I can tell you that as soon as the next product line drops you'll be able to find these cards at slashed prices on ebay. The thing is that, unlike the first mining craze with bitcoin, this time there is going to be no complexity wall discouraging the use of gpus and favouring ASICs since ethereum is designed to avoid it.

pascal supply is just dropping overall. Pcpartpicker shows less and less entries for Nvidia cards, probably preparing for the launch of their new product line

I am very scared of that, not because i wouldn't trust the shops or w/e, but the postal service here inside the country is just terrible. Everyone avoids it.. i might be forced to wait till new ones in the end ..

This mining boom is not going to slow down anytime soon unless all of the crypto currencies experience a major fall.

Well maybe you're right. I think it's even better to wait if you consider price levels. In April Nvidia will probably show teir new GPU's and this will lower current gen.graphics cards for sure.

Watch newegg closely, some gpus come into stock for a reasonable price very briefly.

Lol this is just the beginning. Expect all new cards to have the same problems too. Nvidia and AMD need to ramp up production

Well, i ended up going for a 1080 Strix A8G. Found one cheap by some miracle, and with the rest of the money i got a gaming chair. I'm upgrading from a 1050 ti, so while i wish i went with the 1080 ti, i think the 1080 will still feel awesome.
