My internet speed is to be honest, dead awful

 

I get 5/0.2 on a good day, and it will often dip below 1mbps download

 

I've contacted my ISP multiple times and done everything they have suggested but my speed has not increased whatsoever

 

Are there any tips/ tricks/ hardware upgrades you guys can suggest

 

Keep in mind I live in New Zealand, where the national average is around 70 down and I'm using the default router from my ISP

Only way to fix is pay for a better isp. Are you using wifi

Well you get what you pay for and if you not getting what you pay for tell them and they will see what’s wrong and probably send someone out to check on it. They have to give you the speeds you pay for atleast during the day, I know my ISP throttles at night time.

 

and if they don’t fix it well I’m sure there is legal issues with that. But then again idk how New Zealand works.

What kind of connection do you have?

ADSL, VDSL, Fibre?

There's not really much you can do other than wait for UFB upgrade to get to your street.

 

The reason for the speeds you are getting is the distance from your house to the exchange, ADSL gets slower over distance.
