LAN Party Set-up help!

I am going to host a little LAN Party for my friends and I next weekend, I will probably have around 8-10 people so I will need a switch.

I have 25/10 speeds. 

 

What else do I need? What is a good switch?

Anything I need to know?

Any networking brand switch would be fine. I'd get a gigabit one or you'd be wasting your money. I've had that top TP Link Gigabit switch (I have 5 port one) for about 1.5 years now. Been on 24/7 and had 0 problems.

I'd get a 8 port switch then use the router you have in your house for the other ~2 computers.

To LAN and with a budget of $50 I would take whatever you can get. You don'd really need to worry about and features or options because with that budget you wont have a lot to be picky on...

 

TP Link are reputable enough looks like a good option to me.

 

As suggested grab one of those 8 ports if the budget cant stretch enough for a 16port and then if your router has enough port utilize these as well.

Remember, what about things other than the switch?

 

 I picked up a  24 port 10/100 switch off of ebay for ~$25, works great for when I host lan parties. 

 

Some other things I would recommend getting would be some ethernet cables unless everybody is bringing there own, food, and maybe a file server. I set up a free nas server, and while we don't really use it a lot, it does come in handy if somebody doesn't have a game installed.

Main rig: Coursair Air 540, Amd 8120(stock clock, had it up to 4.6), Gigabyte 990 fx ud3,  MSI DCU2 r9 280x, seasonic 1000w platinum, Samsung 830 64 GB ssd, Seagate 1tb, 4 GB (2x2) G.Skill, 

 

Secondary: Define r4, Amd A10 5800k(4.6), 1x Sapphire 7950, MSI FM2-A85xa, 8 GB coursair vengeance ram, Seasonic 1250w Gold, 500GB 840 Evo, 223GB 2.5 Hdd, 80 Gb Seasonic, Samsung CD/dvd

Any switch will be fine just make sure you are not buying a HUB. Gigabit would be better if you plan to copy "stuff" from each is will be much faster. then a 100 Megabit switch.
