RX 580 (OC) Low GPU Usage in Simcity 2013

Opencircuit74

Hello, I got my new computer parts in yesterday, (R5 1400, 8GB RAM, BIOSTAR X370GT5, 80GB SSD + Other Hard Drives) and I went to play Simcity, as my previous GPU, the R7 240, did pretty bad in that game. I should have seen  an ~ 800% increase in preformance, but I managed to get basically the same FPS as my old card and G4560. I will attach the Afterburner log to show what is happening. If anyone knows why this is happening, please let me know. Thanks!

Make sure it's not throttling so check temps.

What hard disk are you using and is simcity installed on that disk?

My own build: RΛZΞR theme

CPU: Intel Core i5 7600K // CPU cooler: Cryorig H7 // Motherboard: MSI Z270 gaming pro carbon //

The GPU isn't throttling, as it stays 50-60 degrees C. The game is installed on the SSD, which is an Intel 530s series 80GB SATA 3 M.2.

Sim City is more CPU dependent than GPU

Some of your settings might have been turned up automatically tho

Hmm... the CPU usage stays from 40-60 on four cores, so I don't really think it's that. My CPU is also stable at 3.8GHz

I have checked with CS:GO, and the framerates were 120+ with all high settings and 4xMSAA. The FPS I would originally get (with low settings) were around 50-60 at the beginning, and high 20s towards the completion of a city. Now, I get 70-90 in the beginning, with high 30s once the cities are close to completion. The GPU usage spikes irregularly during the game, and the core clock is 200MHz (varying) lower than the overclock I set. Any suggestions to making the GPU usage 100%  all of the time? Pictures have been attached below. Capture.thumb.PNG.6c9292f817369a6596d684aa0c6df282.PNGCapture1.thumb.PNG.33fc3b26ad3ef255931e265afbc839ca.PNGCapture2.thumb.PNG.1ade8592c50f1a0b4a5029bef34fc2dd.PNGCapture3.thumb.PNG.b5d9b3d28205b1e246c951d8380c7f3d.PNG

I have a i5 3570 and a 4gb rx 580.

I will test simcity myself. Is it the most recent iteration of the game through ea origin?

I have origin access...i believe the game is on there

The gpu usage points to a cpu limitation in my experience.

When i rum bf4 at low or medium settings i get similar looking uaage because i become cpu "bottlenecked"

Yes, it is the newer Simcity on Origin. Thank you!

EDIT: Cranking the settings did not help the framerate, I dropped about 50% more frames after I did.

Ok....so i just played for a bit and granted my city isnt large....i get 100+ fps most of the time with dips to 80ish. Gpu load is all over the map....cpu usage on all 4 cores floating around 55%...my gpu clock varies within 150 mhz range.

I imagine that the bigfer the city the more usage, do you know if gamr uses more than 4 threads....have you overclocked your cpu.

It seems your system is fine. Must be a cpu heavy game imho

That is the same thing I got... Thanks for trying it, It must be the game. I overclocked my CPU by 600MHz, but that still does not help. I might try contacting EA, but I doubt I will get a response.
