Transporting a PC

Attona

Ok, so i just recently built my first gaming pc, and it's working amazingly. Ryzen 3, rx 570 (somehow at $220 from microcenter), you know. But i completely overlooked something...

So, i travel quite frequently to California from Kansas in a plane, and I don't have a way to game when I'm there. I really want to bring my PC with me, but it's if a full ATX case (Corsair spec-02), so i can't carry it on. So, how the hell am I supposed to get this pc around?? Any help i can get is very much appreciated

Had a custom pc, but I traded it for a Razer Blade 15 with a RTX 2070

Get a itx case and motherboard. I have an Node202 for example and it could fit in a backpack.

If you really want to take your at tower in a plane make sure to uninstall the GPU and depending also the cpu cooler.

I'd honestly invest in a big briefcase with wheels, put some foam in there and carry it around like that. As above, take the GPU off so it doesn't break when they mangle your baggage in the airport.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

I completely blew my entire budget on the build, and buying a new sff case, sfx power supply, mobo, and a low profile cooler is completely out of the question. I need to bring it how it is right now

There's absolutely no way I'm paying $180 to ship a computer one way

Take the box your case came in and the foam it should've come with, and use that. As stated above, remove your GPU and a big CPU cooler if you have one, but otherwise you're fine.

Even if i remove those items, how am i supposed to know if it'll be damaged by careless baggage handlers?

Put in big letters on the side "FRAGILE!" and they'll be a bit more careful. Either way, the foam should be enough. If you're really paranoid, throw in a shitload of bubble wrap.

It's well known that desktops + flying = tragedy.

So give your computer a few hundred bucks for gas money, hotel room, and food and have it drive itself while you fly.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

Do you have a laptop? Use the laptop to remote into the desktop and have the desktop do all the rendering and processing for the game. The laptop can likely handle viewing the session without any latency or graphical issues, of course depending on the quality of said laptop.

You can pack the internals for support using hard foam packing material, not a kind that will shard or turn to powder though. That hard foam stuff that looks like its wrapped in a plastic bag stuff. mold it inside the case to support your GPU and cooler or anything else hanging down and you should be in good shape.

If you are travelling by plane your only chance with a ATX is to buy a ticket for your PC. Just like musicians get a seat for their big instruments.

put some foam in the case to support the GPU and cpu cooler (if its a big heatsink) and but the whole build in the box of the case (with the included foam) that should keep it safe
