I would get the 1030, especially if you're not going to be doing anything too demanding with it and can run all your games at playable framerates

After comparing it to a r7 360 i have, i believe the gt 1030 should do fine with the 1280*1024 monitor i have to go with it.
Thank you for your opinion.

I recently got a dell optiplex 760 small form factor for free. I replaced the e8400 dual-core cpu with a q6600 quad-core and put a 128gb ssd in it. I also replaced the original radeon hd3450 gpu with a r5 235 i had, which gave me 50-ish fps in cs:go... However i would like to upgrade it.

The pc has a 235W dell psu with a 17A 12v rail. I am confident i could fit a standard tfx psu in the case. Power consumption at wall under 100% cpu load is around 140W. Cpu tdp is 105W. Im thinking about putting a 1030/1050 in it, but i am a bit afraid of psu wear over time as the pc is already toasty even when idle.

I found a low profile zotac 1050 for 126€ on amazon, but it too is a dual-slot card like other 1050s. It would fit internally but the gpu bracket conflicts with the latch that holds the card in. It would require a major case mod or a hole in the case and a modified bracket. Though i wonder if they want both the long and short bracket for warranty purposes if the card ever breaks

Quick calculations show (using passmark numbers) that a 1030 would give a ~6x performance boost and a 1050 would give a ~12x performance boost (relative to the radeon r5 235). If i used the stock psu the 1050 would give most power/€, but if i want to upgrade the psu the 1030 would be better for the money. I also looked at some gt 710s (40€), but those only give a 90% performance boost.

TL:DR

Which is better paired with a q6600; a GT 1030 (69,99€) OR a GTX 1050 (125,99€, maybe another 57,39€ for a 300W psu)
I would rather not upgrade the psu, but i also want the 1050 D:

I am leaning towards the 1030 for easy install, less heat and less money.

GT 1030 sounds like the way to go

Be careful with those optiplex and GeForce 10 series cards, many only support UEFI, and dells bios does not play well.   I have dozens of optiplex and the zotac are the only ones I have success with.  I can guarantee you a zotac 1050 mini will work.

I'll try to remember this. I do have a media pc i could swap it into and use the radeon hd 6570 (i think) it has. If the non-uefi asrock board supports the 10 series cards either :D
