Looking for upgrade advice

So right now i have an i3 2120 3,3gHz, a 750ti, 8gb of ddr3 ram @ 1600mHz on a GA-B75M-D3H. I'm looking to upgrade as much as i can, and i have a total budget around 400 USD. I've been looking at things like the i5 2500, the i7 2600, the i5 3470, i5 3570 and i7 3770, as well as cheap skylake/ryzen 3 options, but i also need to upgrade my gpu as i really don't want to bottleneck the new cpu. What cpu/gpu combination would give me the best results within that price range?

CPU: Core i3 8100 @ 3,6GHz

GPU: Zotac GeForce GTX 750ti 2GB

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-B360M-DS3H

RAM: 8GB DDR4 Crucial Ballistix Sport @ 2400mHz

Storage: 2TB WD 7200RPM HDD, 2TB Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM HDD

Case: Deepcool Dukase V3

PSU: Corsair CX450

Keyboard: Cougar Core

Mouse: Logitech G502

Headset: HyperX Cloud Stinger

2600k and a 1060 3GB card would suit nicely. The issue with R3/Skylake or more would be extra expensive because you would need to buy new ram. DDR4 is expensive.

Unless he got a Skylake board that supports DDR3 and reused his current memory.

ddr4 is only expensive because of stupid higher demand due to crypto currency miners

That's a possibility, but I think the 1060 3GB is as low as I'd go, even with a 1050ti, staying within budget may be tough. It'll probably be hard to find the board and a decent chip for the difference. An eBay search turned up a board for around $100 leaving only 60-ish for a chip. Especially considering that the 2600k is still slightly better than the i3 6300 and will not require a new mobo from his current setup.

It doesn't change the fact that it is still stupid expensive. I remember my buddy bought 16GB for $70, my brother got it for $80. I got it for $120, not its at least $160 and up. Price gouging.

There's a DRAM/NAND Flash shortage which is why prices are high. Cryptocurrency miners only drove up GPU and Celeron prices.

It hurts my soul. It also hurts my wallet and brings 8GB back to the mainstream.

If you have $400 to spend--

$used i7 for your motherboard, I don't know if 3000 series chips will work. If so, find one, if not, go with a 2600/2700k. I think you can find one used for ~$100?

go to 16GB DDR3 if you can afford to after upgrading CPU and GPU.

1060 6GB is probably a good card to aim for.

The Sandy/Ivy bridge era stuff still holds up well in modern titles. With your budget, I'd focus on finding a used i7 and a solid GPU rather than a new platform and associated costs.

I have a B75 board so i can use up to 3rd gen, which means a 3770 is a possibility, and costs around $60 more than a 2600 on amazon. I'll be playing at 900p for a while as i got a 75hz monitor then upgrading to 1080p 144hz, so i guess a 1060 6gb is probably the way to go, although i'll probably wait for prices to settle down when ethereum crashes inevitably. Thanks in advance to everyone.
