Going from a 15 Inch to a 13 Inch?

Hello,

I was looking around for some good portable laptops that could do some very light gaming, and it seems like most of them that would be within my budget have 13 Inch screens. Right now I have some old Gateway Laptop with a 15 Inch screen, and I was wondering if anyone went from a 15 Inch screen to a 13 Inch screen before and if there was that much of a difference, and if I should find some kind of 15 Inch laptop.

Thanks.

I have found that going from a 15" display to a 13" display of a higher resolution was just fine.

Yeah, I was looking at going from a 15 Inch 720P panel to a 13 Inch 1440P Panel. I took a peek at the 13 Inch Macbook airs at a local store around here (No one really sells any other laptops in my area), and I thought it was a little too small but I never really used it for typing or anything as the store was bound to close in about 10 minutes from when I got there :P.

It's only 2", and since this is screen size and not anything else (hehe), the difference won't really be that noticeable. Especially depending on what scaling settings you use.

I don't play games but after using a 15" laptop for many years and dropping down to 13" for portability, it hasn't affected usage very much. a nice middle ground are 14" laptops, but not many make those

the MacBook Air is actually 1440x900. the MacBook Pro 13 and 15 have higher resolutions

Those MacBook Airs aren't 1440p, they're 1440x900. Those screens aren't much better than the 1366x768 I'm assuming your old display runs at. Don't get an Air, do yourself a favour and get a better machine.

2" diagonal makes a big difference. The 15" MBP has nearly 33% more screen than the 13".

Anyway, I wouldn't personally touch a 13" laptop, but I also wouldn't touch a sub-QHD display either.

Personally, 15" QHD >>>> 13" QHD > 15" HD >>>> 13" HD.

I use one and there is no limitation. The display is plenty large imo.

Normally I wouldn't either but I don't have the money, nor see the benefit, in upgrading my desktops monitor. For my Mac though, 2560x1600 is really nice and sharp.

Yeah, Wasn't planning on the air anyways. I am way to used to windows, and I think it would be a pain to learn how to use a new operating system IMO.

MacOS (or OS X) isn't bad, and it's not too hard to get used to. The problem with the Air is that it has a low resolution display, they use older hardware and aren't as up to date as modern Macs. The MacBook Pro is one nice machine though. I'm planning on trying to get one of those in a long while when I can afford one.

Yeah, I was looking into a Razer Blade Stealth sometime when they go on sale and I have the money.

I'd look elsewhere. Blade's have terrible quality control, build quality, and the keyboard/trackpad are junk.

I've had good luck with Razer Products in the past, But what other brands should I look at? I have had 2 Acer laptops in the past (Both gave out after a year and a half), and a Gateway one as of late that I use now (Gateway is owned by Acer), That that is starting to go to the trash can after hardly using it, although I have had it for two years.

There really aren't a ton of 13" laptops that can be recommended for gaming.  You have the Surface Book 13" but that is crazy expensive

Really jumping to a 14" or staying 15" is the best option for raw power/gaming

Aero 14 would be my choice

Personally I went from a 13" MBP to a 15" Dell XPS 9560 and I don't think I could go back.  A lot has changed size wise with 15" laptops, they tend to have the footprint of traditional 14" laptops due to laptops bezels getting ultra small

The new XPS 13 would be a nice pick, but don't expect any great out of the integrated graphics
