Would you recommend the ASUS maximus VI hero over the MSI g65 gaming? I'm going to run a i7 4770k, with a GTX 680. I rather have a great performence and quality, i really don't care about Ovcing.

Why are you getting a 4770k and a Z87 chipset if you have no intentions of overclocking? Get yourself a 4770 + a cheap motherboard and save the money. Performance wise it's all pretty much the same.

If you don't want to overclock, you could just get a 4770 and any H87 board that you like. Personally I would get a 4670 unless you are doing video rendering as games don't use hyperthreading.

The mobo doesn't affect performance and quality isn't much of an issue with the z87 line.

It sounds like you're doing it wrong.

You're choosing a z87 chipset and k series cpu which are for overclocking and you say you don't care for it.

Plan your build as a whole and not part by part.

All Z87 motherboards deliver pretty much the same performance and overclocking capabilities (except if you are planing on using LN2), therefore you could base your decision on price, features, looks, warranty, customer support and accessories, which come with the board. However if you are not planing on overclocking at all there is no point of spending more money on a Z87 board and a K skew processor. You might just get a cheaper H87 board and a i7 4770/1 processor.

maybe this person has the budget and wants to get awesome quality components and leave them at stock settings and then gives an option in the future to overclock if they want to.

And you get the good sound with a ROG board.

If you need to save a little there is the next step down in the motherboard range, but then again if you can afford it get the best board that you like with all the features that you need and make it futureproof.

Also there is other form factors of the ROG boards if you don't need all them pci-e slots and want a smaller build.

got to love Asus components

regards,

Asus has a justifiably good reputation for building excellent motherboards. MSI's reputation is not as good. But the latest MSI gaming motherboards seem to be well liked. The feature sets are similar, I'd pick Asus. But that's just because I've successfully used Asus boards for a very long time.

There are many motherboards. A description of the features you need and want would give people the opportunity to offer more informed suggestions.

I'm curious about the GTX 680. Is this gpu from a previous system? Is the plan to SLI?

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
