Premiere Pro took 6 hours to "conform" video.

IsaacThePooper

I'm kinda a beginner at Premiere Pro, so I need help.

I have about 2 hours of video footage at 1080p60 on a pretty slow 5400RPM hard drive. So I imported it to Premiere and playback was terrible.

I figured out that it needed to "conform" all the video to have smooth playback, but it took about 6 hours to completely conform all the video.

Is the problem the hard drive or the version of Premiere that I have?

FYI It's version 12.0.0 (build 224)

I have a Ryzen 5 1600 with 16GB of RAM, and a GTX 970 (if that's relevant at all).

It all depends on what codec an d container you conformed  it to

If you just want to have it so you can easily work with it in premiere try transcoding it to DnxHD or The Cineform Codec. they aren't the fastest when you transcode them but they are made as "intermediate" codecs and you'll be able to work very quickly with them
